Drivers side door unlocks after closing the door

As the title says, when the drivers side door is open, I lock the door. After I close the door, the drivers side door unlocks automatically.

Is this a normal safety feature? If so, any way to disable it?

This requires me to manually lock the door with my keys every time I get out the car since it will always unlock the door after closing it.

I just found that this is a common safety feature in older cars to prevent people from accidentally locking the keys inside.

Check your owners manual. It tells you a secret on how to lock the door without using a key.

It is normal for all japan cars. Just hold the door handle up when closing and it will stay locked. It is exactly as stated a safety feature to not lock keys inside.

^^ What he said... until you get used to holding the handle up when closing the door and therefore you can still lock your keys in the car.... LOL
