Drive Train Noise - Help ?

HI Guys,

I am having some drive train noise and just need some advice or opinions.......

At low RPM when accelerating (2-3k) I have a loud metal rasp / grind noise. in pretty much all gears.

I removed the shifter boot and rubber covers etc. the noise seems to be coming directly from where the tailshaft meets the gearbox.

I cant really tell if its the gearbox creating this noise or the uni on the tailshaft is gone.

(I also have noise when the clutch is out, but that may be a complete separate issue)

any suggestions on more troubleshootings to narrow the 2 down?

The clutch is been replaced very soon, so the box will be coming out, if that helps to make some checks?

Is it just a noise or vibrations too?

Does the noise get louder as your speed increases, and does it make different noises when you accelerate and decelerate? Does it still make the noise when you are cruising in neutral?

I had those symptoms and the problem was that the bearings in the rear diff needed to be replaced. The noises sounded like they were coming from the trans or tail shaft, but when I raised the car with all four wheels off the ground and accelerated the car, the noise was from the diff.

It is mainly noise, but last night was playing up quite bad and was some vibration.

no noise on decel or in netual cruising.

it is only when under load at low rpm accelerating, I wouldnt really say it gets louder either, its kind of either there or its not, in the higher rpms it actually disappears.
