yes. 92-95 fd's are possible, it will cost you about 5k to register it, plus about 1-2k to ship it over here. 95+ cars are possible but there is technically no legal way to do it, you either have to bribe someone, or do some sort of vin swap.

i looked into this a while back and its alot harder than you think it would be. first off the car wont pass emssions because it isnt obd2 compliant second off it isnt registered as a car that can be modified to us safety satandards. it isnt dot and nhta " i know i spelt that wrong" compliant either. it would be really easy if you could get mazda to give you a letter saying that a 95 and a 99 are the same car except for the fact that mazda said that it isnt the same. then of course one of the reasons mazda stopped bringing the fd here is the fact that in 96 the laws changed so they figured it was too costly to bring the fd up to the new specs. there are ways to bring te car here but it is going to get really compliacated and expensive. at least that is what the gov said when i called them. when i was looking to do this there was a member on this board named CRACKER and he was really getting close to doing this. oh yeah i just remmebered something the reason you need to have mazda give you the letter saying the car is the same is because this bypasses you having to buy like 2 or 3 cars for crash testing. really if you are serious about it you need to find a RI to apply for your car to get on the possible conversion list. then from there you need to see if the gov will approve your car to modified to us specs. so you need to buy a car.....30k for a 2001"j-garage.com" and then you need to have it shipped here 1-2k " unless you know someone in the import/export buisness" and then you need to have it sit in customs while the gov determines if your car can be brought up to us specs...while you pay for it to be stored" i was pissed about paying for storage when i might even be able to drive it" and then you need to pay you RI guy. then you need to pay for all the parts and conversions to make the car legal. and after that i said screw it because it got to complicated and expensive..... so i recommend finding a 95 and just convert it to jdm. its so much easier and cheaper. as far as i know this method is the only legal way to drive a jdm fd on the road. and you know how i found alll this stuff out???? its called the search buttom at the top. well i hope this helps you out. and if you get one....can i have a ride

I wonder if the emission stuff would still apply if you live in a state where they don't test for emission's, and I think Motorex or whoever brings the skylines in can bring in the FD

I know of few people who has done this sucessfully. First you import the car as a race car. You pay customs taxes, etc and and import fees. Then you find a FD, that has been totalled or whatnot that was not reported to the insurance company so bacially the title is till clean, and you take that VIN number and swap it on the New FD from Japan, and you got yourself a nice new FD. It's illegal and if they catch you, they will chop your car in half, but its very difficult to get caught because you have the VIN numbers and all, plus, it's not illegal to have a right hand driven car (tell them you converted your FD to RHD, and if they ask about the vins on they body panels tell them you had a body shop import japanese parts and swapped it on your car (which my friend does at his body shop)
btw: you can get a 2000 RS for like 16-18K, customs paper work for $800-$1000 and shipping for about $1000-$1500
so alittle over a 20K for a nice 2000 FD,
ANYONE HAVE A FD THAT HAS BEEN PARTED OR SOMETHING THAT CAN GIVE ME THE TITLE?

i remember when i was doing a search some guy in canada was trying to import one and he had all sorts of problems with the RIV " i think its riv" agency in canada. i just remember he gave up. it was posted in the canda forum. and certain models need to have a airbag swited from a miata so that the can have a airbag.... and about shipping it to a state where there isnt emissions testing... well then your car isnt 50 state legal. hence the problem. and yeah you can import a jdm fd for race purpose only but then you need to have a race schedule and you need to be registered for those races. i asked the guys at vt cars about that. also the car comes here on a visa kinda like a international student. so after so much time goes by so does your car......it gets back on a boat and goes back to japan until you renew ts visa thingy. so as i said in my first post its really expensive and complicated to get one here. but i still want a ride if you can get one
