Downpipes for cheap

I know this question has probably been asked many times, but I tried searching the forums for an answer and it gave me about 20 pages of results! So my question is what is a good, yet cheap downpipe that I should invest in for my FD?

www.vrsexhaust.com $200

Here is what the RX-7 downpipe looks like, 3" stainless steel mandrel bent, clean welds, O2 sensor hole and it fits.. I test fitted it last night. You do have to remove the studs and use bolts instead though to attach it.

Absolutely, the only areas to be picky about really on a downpipe are the welds, bends, and fitment in my opinion. Plus he will get it out to you within a few days, who knows how long you will have to wait for an M2/Bonez or the like.

The cheapest way to do it then is to make it yourself or find a shop that is willing to take your cat off and do it.. most won't touch it. $200 is not much when you consider that it is not only stainless steel but you also need to weld in a threaded bung for the O2 sensor, fab a mounting flange, get the bends just right etc. Your best bet may be picking up a used one from someone on the forum.

remember, mikestl15, like with most things, you're not paying for what you're getting, you're paying for what's been gottin' done. granted it's just a piece of metal with flanges and welds, but it's made correctly to fit correctly. i don't think some pipe pumper at "joe's muffler house and fur seatcover emporeum" is going to be able to create a downpipe of the mass produced's quality such as the pettit, m2, atr, and apparently these vsrexhaust people. which happens to be around the corner from pettit...hmmmmmmm?

I found a brand new Pettit SS for 250 shipped on this forum. It' kinda luck of the draw. Search under "downpipe". Funny enough I contacted a very old post (about a month prior) and he still had the pipe so make some inquiries even if you think it's sold.

I also coated mine with Techline Ceramic paint to keep the heat down. Same stuff as Jet Hot, but a lot more dealers/installers; found one 10 miles from my house.

Good luck.

My pipe will fit very good and it looks incredible! It's fully polished 3" SS w/mandrel bends and gaskets included. What is the best fitting DP on the market? I can assure you mine will match the fit and exceed the finish. I'll check on shipping but I should be able to give you a competitive price with the ones that have been talked about. I also have midpipes of the same fit and finish. Do these other places offer the gaskets with the DP's and MP's? I thought they charged extra for those.....they're included with mine.

thanks
Elliott

Sorry I haven't gotten back but the email notification doesn't work for me anymore. I'll try and check in more often
