Downpipe question

I have searched and havent found anything directly (or indirectly: i couldnt find anyone who even had this pipe) relating to this.

I have an apexi downpipe that came with my turbo kit, i have not seen anyone else using this downpipe (i believe it has a resonator on it as well) and was curious about any install problems or other things i may want to look out for when i go to put it on in the next few weeks.

Also, how was the sound for anyone that has one? I hear with most downpipes you can hear the turbos nice since there is no precat but since this one has a resonator in it (isnt that what the bulge in the pipe is??) will it sound the same or better? Thank you for your help i just cant find any other information on this topic.

Re: Downpipe question

A resonator on a downpipe? Never seen or heard of that before. Can you post pics or link to one you find on the 'net?

As for the sound, with the downpipe on, you'll hear a quiet whistling as the turbo spins.

That bulge isn't a resonator. It's a piece of braded flex-pipe. It allows for a little bit of movement in the exhaust system and greatly reduces strain on the downpipe flange. Many downpipes (particularly those on FWD cars) will crack the dp flange weld or back out the bolts/studs if there is no flex pipe. Because of the way the FD3S engine is located and the way it moves when it "torques", it is not as prone to this problem.
