Downpipe installation question
Do you have to do anything to support the cat at the point where the DP bolts up to it?
The stock system had a nice bracket to support all that weight, and it will not fit around the DP now.
Is it ok to let this go. I'm kind of worried about all that weight on the turbo exhaust.

No need to support the cat. It should be held up via its mounting hanger, and the air pump tube.
I didn't reinstall the hanger for my DP, and I think the same goes for most people here on the forum. The stock precat weighs like 2 tons, which is the reason for the hanger. The DP is incredibly light in comparisson, and no hanger is really needed.

If you don't do this, you have the entire weight of the cat and the new dp supported only at the rear of the cat by a rubber mount, and at the head of the dp where it bolts to the turbos. The cat is heavy and rubber mounted which will allow it to sway and vibrate. You don't want vibration migrating to a pipe that is supposed to be fixed in a rigid mount. You NEED the extra mounting point.
Try to always keep the stock mounting points when you are doing any mods, eliminating them is asking for trouble. as in "why did my downpipe crack?"

Garfinkle makes a bracket that goes around the DP and bolts to the trans , the pipes move with the motor so keep stress off the turbo to DP bolts, studs. it works for him and his customers.

I haven't had any problem w/o the bracket. There really isn't that much weight hanging on the cat once the DP is bolted into place at the exhaust manifold. To me, the bracket is over the top. I have no vibration issues w/o the bracket.
