Door Switch Power Source?
Hi everyone,
I have made some pretty sweet custom kick plates that will light up red "RX-7" when power is applied. The only issue is, I'm having a hard time finding a power supply that operates off of the door switches. I don't want them to stay on constant and I don't want them to turn on with my gauges (defeats the purpose). I want them to normally be off and only light up when a door is opened.
I tried quick splicing into the key illum light and it just stays constant on, even with the door shut and the alloted timeout period passes. I'm very limited in my wiring diagram knowledge...I've looked over the manual countless times but can't seem to figure out where to splice. Can someone better than I help me out? Thank you!

I thought that as well but I'm thinking that's too much work to try and run a wire up there...I would rather try to do it perfect the first time and find the wire down in the footwell. lol but I'm getting to the point now where I'm tired of chasing this small detail.

Kick Plates
I think you can use any power source that is available when the car is on. You can then wire the ground from the door switch to be the ground for your kick plates. When the door opens the ground will be connected and the LED's should come on. I believe that is the way the door switch works. I will look into the wiring diagram and verify. Also do you have pictures of the kick plates? This is something I have been meaning to do. Thanks

REVIT, thank you for your help. That wire was indeed a ground and it now works exactly as you said. I took some quick pics...I need to smooth out the sanding on the back and reposition the leds a little but overall, I'm happy with it! Thanks again for your help buddy.

Lights
Hey, no problem glad I could help, they look great what was the base for the kick plates, the aluminum ones, standard or carbon fiber? I'm looking at doing the same thing, if you don't mind what LED's did you use?
