Exclamation Door lock, cables, and keys

I just bought a second FD last week, and its got a problem that I'm unfamiliar with. The drivers side lock is jammed (looking at it tonight), but the passenger side turns fine. (BTW both cars have the same issue) Problem is, the lock cylinder does not open/operate the lock enough to actually lock or unlock the door. It is hooked up, I have verified that. It seems to me that the cables that operate the lock itself at the inner handle have stretched. Has anyone experienced this, and do you guys know if there is an adjustment on those cables anywhere? Please help! I hate leaving this thing unlocked because I can't get in if it is locked!!! Thanks!

I've been playing with it a little, it doesn't seem like there is an adjustment point anywhere. Being I have two FD's and they both seem to have the same problem, I can't imagine I'm the only one to have this issue. You think the solution is to replace the cables?

I had the same problem: 17 years of that lock always getting the key plus the little plastic cover broke off years ago. So mine has sand and grime and a lot of sloppy play in it. I took it all apart, cleaned and lubed all the cables/joints and connecting points. Then I called Ray and ordered a new lock cylinder. It now works great. I still have to switch the lock tumblers but right now I am fine having two keys rather than having to use passenger door for acess. I think it was 40 or 50 bucks for the lock cylinder. If you go this route be super careful with the lock cylinder alarm sensor. Those little plastic arms are tiny and old and wont take much bending.

I have this same sort of problem with my FD I cant open from the outisde on my drivers door. I took of the door panel and I can manually open the door from the cable that comes from the outside door handle to the door mechanishm. Anyone know how to adjust the cable? Sorry if I am thread jacking. I think it might be stretched like you have.

resurrecting this thread. I can’t find the above post as I’m having door issues as well. The interior lock switch is getting very hard to move. When I turn my key in the exterior lock, it barely moves the interior lock. From what I found, there isn’t an adjustment screw like you find on the ebrake to adjust tension. I can’t find any info on how to troubleshoot this in the FSM or Mitchell Repair guide PDFs.
