couldnt you get them from ray at malloy mazda? Why does it have to be a jspec hatch lift is the 99 wing that much heavier or something?

My guess is that the newer Jspec hatch lifts were built stronger than the US hatch lifts so that the hatch itself will raise up a lot easier than the 93-95 hatch lifts that struggle to raise the hatch/wing due to too much weight.

my guess is that the 99 hatch struts are 5 years newer and that made them hold up the wing better! I mean the 99 spec wing isn't made from brick theres absolutly no reason stock struts couldn't hold it up. Just get new ones from ray or try to get them from autozone or whatever.

The wing is heavier than the stock wing from 93-95. My car had an aftermarket carbon fibre wing on (uber ugly) when I got the car. The hatch struts wouldn't hold it either, but when I switched it to the stock wing, no problem.

I've got the OEM 99 wing & purchased new OEM struts from Mazda.

They list 2 p/n's.................

Hard susp (i.e. wing)

8BFA-62-620 (right side) $71.25 ea
8BF6-63-620 (left side) $86.15 ea

No problem holding up the hatch. If you have the wing removed, with the hard susp struts installed, the hatch whips open so fast it will take your nose off

Normal susp (no wing)

8BF9-62-620 (right side)
8BF5-63-620 (left side)

Offset the cost to flip the tool over during manufacture?

Higher gas pressure due to wiper motor on that side?

Cause they can?

Mind you, these are Mazda Motor sports prices. You dealer is gonna gouge you way more.

As stated OEM parts and fast delivery! I used the Buy It Now option and with shipping the total cost was $42.00

if you search the old threads JT mentioned that there is a different part number for the struts that hold up the rear hatch in cars with the 99 spec wing.

Sled, those aren't the part numbers.

I know I can't get them from JT but someone posted that they were going to try to get the lighted RX-8 shift **** again and MAY be able to get the struts.

Also, herblenny, mentioned that his contact in England might be able to get them but I haven't heard anything definitive in a while.

I didn't make it clear that the p/n's I posted were, in fact, for the 93-95 cars, available from your local dealer.

What I meant by my post was that I installed the OEM 99 wing & purchased new 93-95 OEM hatch struts. They were strong enough to hold the hatch open.

I don't think you really need to purchase the 99-02 struts (even if you could find them)

Gotcha,

sled, if you pop the hatch, with the hatch lift flly open or do you have to help it up. Then once up, it holds itself in place?

I don't have one yet but the new wing looks like it should be lighter. By the way does it use the same mounting points?

You have to lift it up, but it stays in place.

What make you think that?????? The R1 wing is definetly lighter. The 99 wing has some beefy sides for the adjustible wing feature.

Plus the center section is no light weight to resist flexing. Where do you think your hand normaly grabs to open & close the hatch?

The four aft holes in your hatch will line up perfectly.

However...............
You need to drill two new front holes & plug the old front holes.

thanks sled. good to know. I have the stock struts for the touring non wing....and it does the same like you describe. Pop it open the lift and it will stay. I was hoping to get a beefier one that I could pop and it would open by itself

What P/N? Is it the std or the hard susp version? The p/n is not listed.

You can save a bunch of money on your car insurance, but if it doesn't hold up your hatch, what's the point?

Not available from Mazda Motorsports.
I entered the P/N & it came up with "Part not found"

Now what? Where do you go to find them?

I know you can't get it from mazda motorsports. But just like the lighted RX-8 group buy some people can get parts from England. So I am hoping that this person can do the same.

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...ht=hatch+lifts

I just pm'd the part numbers to see if they are available.
