Does anyone have/make a custom air duct for Greddy/Blitz SMIC?

If anyone has any information on how to fab one or something, or where i can buy something, please let me know. My duct right now consists of spraypainted garden caging wrapped in aluminum tape. it works, but it looks like black cardboard.

thanks,
randy

The Blitz SMIC uses the stock IC duct.

I have a Greddy and the core is way bigger than the duct itself, and that is why i made the modification to the stock duct in the first place.

Yes, but your thread title lists the Blitz as well. However I was more commenting to KMAR. You might do a search as someone was making custom ducts for the Greddy SMIC.

You could also try getting the Pettit duct and modifying it:

Thanks Mahjik, my original duct is not in good shape. I could probably just look for a used one on the forum. Would there be any advantages over the stock duct by having one made up? Also, if I were to make my own I'm aware of how other people have made some on the forum but, I was thinking a fiberglass one would be nice. Does anyone know of a step by step link on how to make one out of fiberglass? I've done fiberglass sub boxes before, the duct seems a little more difficult.

The Blitz is basically the same height and width as the stock IC, it's just a little over twice as thick.

Since the Blitz is basically the same size aside from the thickness, I don't think you'd get much improvement over a stock IC duct. There is always room for some improvement, but I don't think it would be worth the time over just getting a used stock IC duct and then having fun with the car.

you can do a search, I made one for myself a few years back and had planned to make more but just don't have the time.

I made mine by first cutting up a stock unit (slit into top and bottom pieces, semi fit it to the Greddy, with tape, and plastic bits to get a rough new shape. Then built a plug from it cutting longitndinal cardboard "frames" to follow the shape, covered frames with balsa and thin plastic forming into a 3d plug. I faired it to shape , waxed it covered IC in plastic and warped CF/epoxy around plug mold carring up onto IC for a fitup flange. Think I used 2plies let dry, cut out internal plug trimed edges and snount with HD scissors and tryed to fit into car, Final fit up required covering parts in foil and using a blow torch to heat up to reshape. I top coated CF with a onepart clear urethane finish to give UV protection and gloss finish. Also had to fab an alumium stap to scure top of IC to car body.

Final fitup doudle sided tape to IC periemter flange (note I had to cut of bottom overlapping flange do to interferance fit with my big radiator.

My old post had two photos. I may have more photos to post.

FYI: my duct is still in use and looks as good as new. Has held up to track use.

The first photo of template was a post construction photo after ripping the plug apart to get out of duct layup. Sorry, didn't think of photoing till later in the project. but it gives and idea of how I fist cut and fit paper patterns then transfer to heavy board stock and built from their with balsa skin.

The future would be much easier by forming a new plug from my existing duct then building a mold from that to repeat plug scarafical plug building for each duct. I do not see being able to cheaply form these from a female mold as the layup space internally is so small in the intake snout.

My two cents and hope someone can put it to good use.

I purchased my materials both West epoxy and CF/Kevlar cloth from a canoe padel builder that pasted on materials at a reasonable price; their motive is to increase their volume for paddle materilas. I forget the name, but my old posts should list it.

No thanks! But sadly I do have the materials for about 8 more or so. Orginally was going to make a CF undertray, and spliter; never got to it and probable never will.

I tried to install Blitz SMIC today(traded it for Greddy SMIC). I had it powdercoated satin black and was hoping on easy install. Looks excellent

Well. It's core area same as stock. But it's thicker. And. It won't fit with stock duct. It has to be about inch closer to the front. Also, it doesn't fit with stock airbox mount. I have aluminum radiator and Blitz doesnt seem to sit flush on frame either (radiator fan on a way)

So, did anybody mount Blitz in _completely_ stock engine bay with aluminum radiator?

What type of radiator do you have?

I didn't have an aftermarket radiator when I had mine, but I was using the stock duct:

Not much to see with the cover in place though...

The Blitz should have come with a couple brackets that push it toward the rear of the car a little bit. I had a hell of a time installing mine too.

EDIT: I'll take a few pics because mine is installed with the stock airbox and battery in place. It kinda sits a little lop-sided like Majik's though.

You also have aftermarket intake. Stock airbox mount near IC has that "ear" that also get's in a way. I already searched and found that other people had this issue. I may have to dremel that mount a little.

Same thing people had issues with Koyo and not with Fluidine. To be honest - I'm not sure which radiator I got. But it's aftermarket.

I will give it another try later on. May shim radiator a little bit to move it further down...

I got it with what looks like stock brackets. They were missing those rubber bushings, so I just took another ones from stock IC. I will have to compare them closely. Maybe they are different. But they look very stock, I doubt they aftermarket.

Maybe next time I try I will remove airbox and try mount IC first.

And you loose that "releif" hose that comes from side of airbox..

Good thing air duct doesn't have to be cut

I have a blitz SMIC with all the stock engine stuff, and a Fluidyne radiator. Fitment was pretty good. I don't know why you would try to install the intercooler with the airbox still in the car.

I installed a Blitz SMIC with no problem. With some minor trimming, the IC fits very tight but perfectly.
