Does anybody actually has a JDM imported, titled, and insured FD in the States??
I have been reading for days by now. I read soooo much about the subject that I can barely remember what I read.
I got so confused that I think the only way to find out whether its legally doable or not is finding someone who has actually done it.
I read about emissions, similarities with US similar vehicles by manufacturers, cash tests, etc etc etc.
At this point I want it so bad Im afraid I wanted to accept the idea that there actually is a walk around to do it.
The only one that seemed to make sense was the kit car way. But, is there anybody who actually owns and drives a true JDM FD with a US tag and insurance in it?

You can't have a federally legal JDM rx7. Period.
Why would you want one anyways? For the mad tyte jdm-ness yo?

The NHTSA's list has 1986-1995 listed as eligible for importation. 96 and up are probably not on the list because they were never brought here, but you can always try to get Mazda to confirm that there was no significant change in emissions and safety. But that would be hard, most Japanese car manufactures don't like giving that kind of info out. I've read through all the legal crap regarding vehicle importation back when I was trying to figure out how to bring my R32 GTR (RIP) back. http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/elig092210.pdf

Only the LHD are eligible, RHD is not....

So basically all it'll take is to have the car converted to a LHD in Japan and then ship?? Sounds too good to be truth lol

I thought so. Well, at this point I think Im getting the answer as a Not possible. Its what I thought but after reading so much stuff and said... there is only one way to find out, calling out whoever has a JDM fd legally registered and insured.
