I really like my touring. I really didnt have a preference on what i got. I dont really ever use the sunroof. and i took the bose system out, I do wish I had the R1 seats though. Really dont like the leather. I'm just glad I got an RX7

I bought my car late in the game and when it comes to the used market, you basically buy what's available in the best condition. So I got a touring, but it doesn't really matter. I've since stripped out all the Bose stuff, added R1 oil coolers, suspension, and aero (lip and spoiler), changed the seats, etc. The only stumbling block is the sunroof and helmet clearance, but it's still nice to have wide open when just driving around on a nice day.

I like to think I have the best of all worlds...1995 PEP
No rear wiper
No bose
Sun roof
Cruise
Leather (although, might have R seats soon)...I get lots of compliments on how comfortable my seats are...do slide a little during autocross
R wing and lip (need to add brake ducts when I work the brakes)
R strut brace
upgraded struts and springs
upgraded rear sway mounts
upgraded dual oil coolers
did I miss anything?

Love my touring model. Sunroofs, leather, and the Bose is the ****. the rear wiper comes in handy too. Never use it going down the road, but just to wipe the standing water from when the car is sitting in the rain.

Some people do care but IMO there's no reason to. For me there are only two types of FD: those with sunroof and those without. Any other differences can be easily and cheaply changed.
I have a base model with leather and cruise but have added the extra R1 oil cooler, front strut bar and R1 front lip for instance. I still don't like the R1 wing. I think the cars are prettier without it.
These cars are getting fairly old. Buy the cleanest car you can find and then make changes if desired.

I have a Touring. I *really* like the sun roof, my cars have always had them, so I guess I am just used to them by now, I think I would get a little closterfobic w/o it. The leather seats don't make much of a difference to me in the end, though I am not looking forward to burning my *** whenever I sit down in the summer. Cruise Control... I would get pulled over WAY too much and ticketed during regular driving if it weren't for this option.
Personally I really like my touring, but I wouldn't turn down any FD merely based off its specific model.

I have a Touring. I've always been a big sunroof/targa/t-tops kind of guy although I hate full convertibles. When I bought the car I didn't know anything about tracking. Actually, I didn't "shop" for an RX-7; I saw it and I bought it (big mistake but live and learn). Luckily, my helmet barely hits anything inside the car. My height is in my legs so I have a problem with the steering wheel, not the roof. I will be fixing that with a smaller steering wheel once everything is set.
I do plan on replacing the driver's leather seat, but not because I don't like leather. I want a seat I can 'properly' mount my anti-sub strap. In general though, I prefer leather seats as they can take a pretty good beating.
I don't care for the rear wiper on the car, but that wouldn't make me pass up that version of the car. I'm contemplating shaving it when I repaint but we'll see when the time comes.

Bought the r2 for the performance-sunroof added weight so I guess Mazda did not want it as part of the r series. Traded in my 86fc with a sunroof which I missed almost immediately. Did my interior in nice leather-found seats and console and went wild. - not the Mazda leather stuff. I am keeping my r2 cloth seats carefully stored. So the sunroof would be nice but I have learned to live without it. Go for one with a good engine and light modifications

actually I do care. Gotta have the sunroof. Let that damn heat out.
R1/R2? not a fan.
because I:
love the sunroof (Let that damn heat out)
love the leather interior
I can always add an extra oil cooler
I already have coilovers and koni yellows so....
I do not like the 93's because:
the two tone interior (the ones that have it), the tach, and nontextured panels.

Wow, I think im the only one who passed up great deals on the R models just to get the touring. I need a sunroof, and didn't want to get one without a sunroof and then cut out an aftermarket one like I did on my previous car (which was a really really bad idea)

Depending on what route you plan to take, if you are going to mod/replace everything it's pointless to have R1-touring.
for racing just stick to the base model and and upgrade your parts one by one, since the car is already 13+ years old suspension works and what not will need to be replaced...
if your looking for some power + luxury then touring/r1
Other from that I love my base model, it's light weight and fun. wouldnt trade it for any other model

My arms are kinda short compared to my legs (damned awkward proportions!), so when I moved the seat as low and far back as I could, my legs were fine, but I was really stretching to reach the wheel. Not fun at all. A 60mm extension brought it right to the perfect spot, and suddenly my knee had room for heel/toe!
I'm stuck now though. I don't want to get rid of my airbag.

I've got a 94 PE. Love the sunroof and leather. Though it would be nice to have the rear WW and the extra oil cooler. When I starting shopping for my FD, I really didn't care if I got a base, touring, PE, R1/R2... I was just looking for an FD in good condition.

I have a 94 touring...wanted an R2...but have since converted to black carpet, base seats, dual oil coolers and a full suspension setup.
So I guess if I got the R2 it would have been a whole lot of wasted parts. Besides...I need the cruise control, on road trips it is the only thing that keeps me from going to jail. Everytime I am in control the car is in triple digit speeds.
So everyone can say what they want about removing cruise...but I like it
