Do they ask you if it's a Viper?
Since I put on the body kit I get "viper" about ten times for every person who actually knows its a 7. And I thought that was funny about the turbo or non turbo question...I actually had a guy who owns an fd ask me that. I almost slapped him
I have had people ask if it is a Viper, Porsche, Miata, MR2, and MX6. I personally thought the MX6 was great because it was the guy at Jiffy Lube getting my emissions tested. I pull in and he's like "I love these, MX6, right?" I'm thinking to myself that obviously this guy doesn't love these cars. I told him it was an RX7 and he asks if it is the V6. I have to explain that it is 2 rotor and he can't figure out how to put that in the emissions tester. So he decides to put 4 cylinder because it has 4 plugs. Needless to say were never able to get the tack on their machine to represent the actual engine RPM's. I hate people who think they know what they are talking about, but don't.
I teach 5th grade in Long Beach... and I make sure each and everyone of my little ten year olds knows that my car is a Mazda RX7.... and that's it's the fastest, baddest mother ****** on the street.... Kids are great... they believe everything!

I've had this conversation about 8 times now....
"hey what kinda car is that?"
-It's a Mazda Rx-7.
"Oh yea that's that one of those rotary engines huh?"
-Ya
"Heard those things are pretty fast. So how many cylinders is it? 6? 8?"
-Uh you know this is a rotary right?
"Yea, so it's a 6 huh."
-No...there are no cylilnders, pistons, cams, or valves."
"Really how does it work then?
-BLAH BLAH BLAH and it goes on and on.
I find that there are a lot of people that know the Rx-7 as a rotary but have no idea what that means.

From: Where there's only two seasons, hot and wet! I love Okinawa
I LOVE it when mustang/camaro/corvette owners come up to me when I've got my hood up, talk about their mods, then ask me why I've got two radiators. I tell them that the car gets hot because it's a rotary and they accept it and go away.
they have camaros/mustangs/vipers on the streets of okinawa?

Gotten the Viper one many times, even when it was parked right next to a Viper. This one ticked me off. I heard a little kid (probably about 4 years old) say something like "wow, nice car!" to which his dad says "Go tell him you like his Firebird." Ha, good thing the kid didn't say that, I probably woulda had an expression like
and slapped him down.
On a different note, back when I had a Viper, I went out to eat and took it with me. When I was leaving, an old guy and his wife walked by and were looking at it, and the wife asked him what it was, and he responded "It's some kind of Jaguar." *sigh*

I had this one guy look at the car wanted to see under the hood. Poked around for a bit the told me that from the lines of the car and the material the body was made out of he could tell i only had the 6 cyl. engine. Then he told me if i had spent a little more i could have gotten the wankel rotary that came with the high performance Rx7's, he said that because the rotary weas bigger than the 6 cyl. that the had to make the front end longer, thats how he could tell i only had a 6 cyl.

I can't stand that when people tell me about my car and don't know what the hell they're talking about...
two words... smack down!
I do love my Rex more than my own life, and they do resmeble mini Vipers a little, but I can tell you that they are no Viper. The vipers handling is virtually the same as the Rex (I am biased so I think the Rex handles a little better) but as for speed, accelartion and 'chick appeal' the Viper just beats the Rex....
Of course the Viper is also about $65K for a used one!!!

I think that vipers have been overplayed (look in a dupont registry, all you see is vipers). There are too many and the body style has not changed in over 10+ years. I do like the new body style coming out though
Believe me, I love the Rex, but driving my brother's R/T-10 is just so much fun! They are not overhyped at all. he is totally stock and runs 12.2@120MPH in the 1/4 mile. They look cool and sound cool, and girls really do flcok to you!
That being said, for the price of a Viper, I would rather buy 2 Gen III RX-7's, keep one as a stock show car, make about $15k worth of mods in the other one, and put about $15k in the bank!!!!
bang for your buck, the rex is a much better deal than the Viper!!!
