I'm going to replace my apex seals this weekend. Do I need to take my engine apart?

What about that moron who got on last night and started talking **** about just getting an FD an how fast it was because his 'bro' did a 6 cylinder swap and tuned it and it makes mad power now....like he drops it in 3rd and spins mad tire.... Idiot didn't even know what kind of motor was in the car. If you can't pop the hood of your car and not be able to figure out what kind of engine it is, you wouldn't even know what you're looking at if you had the stock one still in there. Why do trash people take any interest in cars? Understanding the mechanics and physics of them takes a decent amount of intellect which it seems none of them have. NOS is not the ultimate thing and lowering a car is not all you do to make it handle better. It just seems ridiculous that out off all the car forums there are out there, they have to log onto the RX-7 Club. As if they're not already over their heads when they get the idea, they decided to come to a rotary forum... Geez. The internet is not a good thing for people who should be studying and doing their homework to go back and finish high school. It really disgusts me to think about the % of uneduated people in the US population. And we thought it was ok to start fixing other countries' problems... After the War on Terror, lets declare another one on idiocy.

Apparently they should add a disclamer to this forum... "In order to post here you must know everything about RX-7's and cars in general"
I don't understand the big deal about people posting questions that many of you may find "stupid" and "ignorant"
People come here to learn about the car... they should be able to ask any question without fear of condemnation.
The RX-7Forum is by far the least tolerant of n00b questions out of any msg forum I have been on. Which doesn't make any sense to me because the RX-7 has the most misunderstood engine in the automotive scene
It just really drives me crazy how people who may be very knowledgable about these engines won't answer the n00b's questions because well... they are soo above that. What the **** kind of community is that?!

we arnt saying that notable questions have validity... however we are sayin that we get alot of ingnorant young kids who think hondas are the shiznit, and that the rx7 is a 250000 dollar car from grand tursimo 3.... if the question is valid we try our best to help however if it is somthing rediculous we treat it as such... people also need to use the search button... i am a firm believer that not many highschool kids have the experiance with rotaries like i have... and i am far from being a master... however i dont ask things like some of these kids do... discression is the better part of valor

It's one thing to post a "stupid" (naive) question because you don't know any better. It's another to post it with a non-descriptive or misleading title, or to babble on in a one sentence paragraph about something no one can understand and which must be deciphered before any further action can be taken. Put a little effort into helping others help you, in other words.
If you're asking for help, at least have the common courtesy to clearly state what you're asking for in the post title, and then continue with a clear description of the problem in the body of the post. Outline what you've attempted to do to resolve the issue that hasn't worked, and what you think you need help on. Don't come here and act like you expect people to solve your problem for you without any effort on your part.
It's not a pre-requisite to know the rotary engine back to front before posting on this forum. It should be a pre-requisite to have a decent grasp of the written English language and knowledge of how to clearly and concisely describe your problem so that others don't have to do extra work in order to help you.
Using the search functionality intelligently seems to be a barrier for some. By at least stating that you've already tried to search and possibly listing the words you tried, you could go a long way towards defusing people's ire. Someone might even help you refine your search so that you can find the information you need on your own.
It's one thing to ask for help. It's another to appear to assume that others are here solely to help you or to appear to be too lazy to use the tools provided to find answer on your own before resorting to relying on others... just something to think about.
I don't understand the big deal about people posting questions that many of you may find "stupid" and "ignorant"
Everyone has to start learning somewhere, but there are plenty of places to find information on this type of subject matter without bothering other people or forcing them to give you an introductory course on automotive subjects or history before they can answer your question. Bring something to the table. Make an effort. People will be more willing to help someone who appears to want to help themselves than someone who appears to just want a free handout.
People come here to learn about the car... they should be able to ask any question without fear of condemnation.
There are no rules that dictate that a member is required to answer another member's question. People post answers of their own free will, and when the service is voluntary, people don't like to feel like they're being taken for granted or taken advantage of. Once again, putting some effort into formulating questions and at least appearing to put effort into helping yourself before relying on other members would go a long way towards keeping tongues more civil.
It just really drives me crazy how people who may be very knowledgable about these engines won't answer the n00b's questions because well... they are soo above that. What the **** kind of community is that?!

To add to Jim's very well worded post above...
It is not so much that newcomers to the forum ask seemingly "naive" questions that bothers me as much as the notion that few people seem to care much about creating a good first impression of themselves anymore.
Perhaps this is an unfortunate side-effect of the internet culture, where personalities come and go seemingly at anytime, and all you really know about them is a faceless, nameless abstract and arbitrary screen name.
But I'd like to stress that it is still important to make a good first, and second, and third, and continuing impression on the community of which you've become a member. It is very easy to tell what sort of a person you are by how well you word your posts, how much time you take in making sure that people understand your position, and that your posts accurately and concisely presents your thought processes. People always think that the more mature members of the forum like to bash newbies and teenagers just because they are newbies and teenagers, but that's not true at all. It is just that this forum is getting a lot of younger members, and those members do not often think first (or sometimes, at all) before they post (heck, even the older members are guilty of this sometimes).
So, put a little more time into your posts, and put a little effort to make sure that what you ask has not been already covered 10000 times. If you have a question, make sure you give enough information so that others know you are serious, and have put in enough time on your own and are truely at a quandary, so that they would be willing to put their time and effort into helping out another member of their community. Posting a "what are some good reliability mods" when there is a thread right at the top of the forum titled "please use the search" is not going to gain you any points.
PS: being a newcomer does not give you carte blanche to ask ridiculous dumbass questions. Yes, I was a newbie once, but I'd like to think of myself as never having been a dumbass.

I simply can not target threads that I want to read anymore. Not to mention the fact that all these immautre topics and responses turn off some of the very senior members that i want to learn from.
See, a thread like this has helped already...i learned that there is a "Report thread" function.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it. If someone wants to update the look of their car, I'm all for it. Of course, I'm not one of the people complaining or trying to set a standard on how people "should" update their car. I believe it's their money, they can do what they want.
However, if you really think everyone is going for aftermarket wheels for performance reasons, then you are more dissillusioned than some of the newbies that post here.

It's the people that posted in this thread about how they want the forum more technical, yet post into threads stuff like "OMG, here we go again" that aren't helping the situation. Sometimes I wonder who the real 17 year olds are....
If you want a mature forum, you have to act mature.

It just really drives me crazy how people who are not knowledgable about their engine or their car in general fail to see the sticky at the top of this page with many useful links inside of it, created especially for newbies so that newbies can learn about rotarys and the 3rd gen rx7 in general and get a good understanding.
Not to mention there is a search button and I dare to say that about 99% of every newbie question that's ever been asked can be found via search (if they use it correctly) or using the links provided in the sticky at the top of the 3rd gen section.
