before you buy the car, please make sure you dont need to ask anymore questions like that. Just read everything in the newbie thread along with everything in the archive.

Search before asking and you will get a lot further. The "search" button is located in the upper right hand corner.

Just briefly, yes they blow easily if improperly tuned and maltreated (taken care of). They will wear out as early as 40k miles or last to ~100k miles depending on care and how you drive it. These engines are very susceptible to blowing if there is detonation because, unlike a piston engine, the apex seals are not well gaurded from such an issue. (I know that piston engines don't have apex seals but I was trying to equate the protection of the compression seals, being rings on a piston engine, to the that of the compression seals, being apex seals on a rotary. It all boils down to how well you can take care of the car, where you take it if there is problems, and who to trust. Mazda dealers no little about these engines and their solution to just about every problem is "uhh...you need a new motor". This is part of the "problem" with rotary engines, lack of knowledge.
Overheating is an issue that needs to be taken care of by way of upgraded radiator and AST. Secondary oil coolers are a nice buy for non R1/R2 models.

Don't talk him into it... We'll end up with another 7 owner that doesn't know how to take care of his car. One more FD doomed to be scrapped.

RX7's are fine, onles U kant spel.

They also blow up if you are too stupid to bother reading about them. Most people, whose IQ exceeds that of a small blue soapdish, would read what is written in the thread above labeled : Newbies/Others Please use search / Useful Links.

Those who are too lazy to do that should just slap some stickers on a Civic, and then they can go Warp 10.

How about I go ask the 3000gt boards if their transmissions have any problems?

ok not all newbies are like this....i consider myself a pretty knowledgable person when it comes to engines and turbos...i have had a helping hand in alot of fast cars...but i admit the rotary is a different game...so far ive been reading and not really posting....because i know how i used to get pissed with newb's on my old forum(vwvortex) and ive seen it happen here

my advice to u is buy a honda put a intake and universal exhaust and call it a day for engine work...then u will have more $ left over to buy stickers

You only got the harping you deserved. All be it your a newbie, thats why I was nice and pointed you to the search feature.

Guys, this is not how the rx7 community should be presented. At least be civilized and nice about pointing out that the search feature and certain threads exist before rapping on this guy. He is a newb after all and needs to be pointed in the right direction, whether it be to help functions or what not.

Yes, that is why most people go overboard. Almost all newbs come on here and ask the same question and it is really easy to find with 2 seconds of looking.

or because we dont want to see anymore rx7 owners who don't know what they are doing and will either crash it because of some stupid reason or mess it up really bad by putting a vielside kit on it....
