do I still hold the record for highest mileage OEM turbos?

160,291 as of right now. No problems, run .80-1.0 bar on the street. No leaks, no oil, no smoke and perfect boost pattern. Oh yea, i'm fully spooled about 2800 rpm or less.

I'd love to believe that so get some proof for us

Is there a number on the turbos that can at least prove when they were made?

I do think that at 10psi the turbos could last for a long long time though

well its not like i'm gonna dis-assemble my turbos, LOL. I have all the maintenace records and I talked to the original owner. It was pretty amazing, I replaced the clutch at 140K only cause I modded the car and it started slipping at 12 psi.

I have put 30K on my car, but the original owner drove the car from CA to NC and back all the time (the carfax report proves that). He told me he never drove above 4000 RPM. The engine lasted till 110K and the car was bone stock till I got it.

Also, Im not hard on my car on the street. I have a good 80 runs at the drag strip where I was rough with it though.

You beat me for miles, but I am not too far behind. I bought my car and a week later the turbos went out. I found a set online for $225 but they had 110k miles on them. I got them thinking it would be a temporary fix while I rebuilt mine or upgraded. Well 35k miles later those turbos now have 145k on them. They dont smoke, dont leak, have the normal light oil mist in the intake, and I have a pretty decent boost pattern of 11-7-10. I think my turbos had a pretty easy life, the previous owner seemed to be a bit older so maybe not so hard on them. He had bought a new replacement set as a preventative measure since the originals were such high milage.

Somehow it's hard to believe 160k miles on stock turbos. Maybe the original owner is pulling your leg? Also the clutch thing seems weird. Do you drive above 45 mph ever and baby the car everywhere?

Like I said, the original owner drove from CA to NC all the time. My carfax shows 50K miles in 1 year alone, its ALL highway miles. Im sure he is telling the truth.

So your FD has how many miles total? 16*K? How is the chassey holding up and the car itself?

ive seen a couple of fd's that went 120k+ on the, original engine turbos, clutch, rear brakes etc.
160k+ is great though

I haven't seen that many miles but I can believe it. Especially if you have mods like the aftermarket radiator that keep the temperature problem in check. That seems to be the biggest issue in turbo failure.

i hater to be redundant, but for the sake of SK, i think that you have the highest mileage that i have ever read.....STILL.....mine went out at 129,051 miles.....and that was only because i shot a pair of apex seals through them...

My car has been a bit odd, I mean my brakes had 80K on them were only half gone (I've never seen brakes last that long), so I replaced those, my rotors were warped so I replaced those with brembos front and rear, my car was really clunky until I replaced all my bushings ($$$), but it made a huge difference. The car is very tight, I notice when I drive another car and then mine, how stiff it is. But again, I have put $$$ in to my car. Oh yea and I put on a strutt tower brace.

Wow. I've never heard of a Turbocharger lasting that long, period. Forget what car they're on, 160k is great.

If the previous owner mostly took very long trips then that is totally believable. Most people don't realize it, but long trips in a straight line put extremely little wear on the car, in some ways its better than just letting the car sit. One day at the track probably puts more wear and tear on the car as a whole than an entire cross country trip with little or no traffic and straight, level roads.

FYI,

when my motor blew it puked the Apex seal through the primary turbo. At 162K miles, you can stick a fork in em they are done. Amazingly, there was like no play on the shafts/blades and the seals were perfect. I found a set of new turbos (Less than 15K miles), the housing was perfect, the secondary turbo was bad, so my mechanic took my good secondary turbo and put it on the new housing with the new primary turbo. So I can sorta say my secondary turbo may continue on the quest to be the worlds highest mileage turbo, LOL.

NK is right. From my experience with other vehicles, highway miles go much farther than city/track miles in terms of reliability. Strict, regular maintenance and taking it easy on the stop-and-go driving go a long way to making a car last. I kept a second vehicle around to take the abuse for my rx7 (well, it is nice to drive the 7 most of the time )

So your engine lasted till 110k miles, then ~162k miles? Two rebuilds?

As for me, may be i'll catch you ! My engine was still going strong and such, but getting 'tired' (hot starting issues), so i've gotten a rebuild ~140k miles. I was going to get rebuilt twins, but Corksport indicted they were still fine, woohoo, money for more modifications (Apexi PFC). The twins have always made the 10-8-10 boost pattern (i never even had to mess with the vaccuum hoses-- recieved car 5 years ago @~70k miles)
