Do I have to cool the battery down?

I was working on the intercooler coupleing and I noticed intercooler duct
is open to the battery I know battery has to be cooled but so does my little stock intercooler.
Can I patch is hole up for better intercooler cooling?
is my bettery gona over heat?
my battery is stock size some aftermarket battery.

Thanks in advance.

Battery failure due to high underhood temps is a common problem with FDs. Hence the little duct to flow cool air over the battery compartment.
In some cases, the battery will EXPLODE, making a mess of your engine bay, paint, the whole nine yards!
I'd say you need to cool the battery as long as it is left in that hot environment.
I've put 2 batteries in my car in just over a year....whether that is due to the heat or to the constant high-amperage draw from my stereo, I don't know......

i personnaly pluged mines in order to get more airflow to the intercooler and it seems to be fine for me. actually, the warmer the battery, the more eletricity it can put out! there is a limit to this but it is true.

It's always good to have some kind of flow going to the battery but is not necessary. Without it, it can shorten the life of the battery.

The OPTIMUM temp for a lead acid batttery to produce maximum current is around 68-75deg f , the under hood temp for an fd can average up to 200deg f, not good at all for the battery, this is why MAZDA put the battery in a fully enclosed box with its own cooling duct
