a bud of mine has over $100k invested in his wrx (sweeeet f'ing ride), and he managed to get his mods covered under his home-owner's insurance. i'm not sure how he did it, but it was something along the lines of being covered like any of your other property, like a couch. but worth a lot more. and on wheels. and fast.

when i had geico way back when (had a mildly-modded '02 wrx at the time), they would do it too. all i had to do was fill out a form stating what the item was, how much it cost, etc.

once i get to the point where i have to worry about it with the STi and FD, i'm gonna check with usaa. they're a pretty good bank/company and i've had nothing but good experiences with them.

off topic: speaking of banks, **** bank of america those ******* *****. sorry, i'm done now.

For a comparison, I pay $1100 a year for full coverage on my FD with $500 deductible on comp and collision. Thru Haggerty, it would be $434 for $25,000 agreed value. They have to assess your car and yes you need receipts for all the stuff you've modded/added.
I will be switching to Haggerty once I get my car repainted and all the little door dings and the like fixed.

You don't have to be in the service...my dad was an officer so I am eligible.

I am not in the service.

Gieco covered all of my mods when my friend crashed my car. They gave me money for my rims, suspension, exhaust, and sideskirts. I just got a price from my local shop for how much everything would cost and they gave me the money.

Most insurance companies I have talked to will cover your mods under Comprehensive which is only $107 a month for me right now, used to be $40 a year until I had 2 accidents. As long as you provide receipts upon incident they SHOULD cover it, however the last company I had wouldn't give me any money for anything other than wheels, stereo and exhaust saying "everything else is a factory option." So be sure to pick a good reputable company!! Do your research!!!

im using farmers insurance right now. they also cover mods, only all i have to do is give them the name and manufacturer, and price for what ever mod i do and they do all the paperwork to add it to my policy. i have to say i have had farmers since i have owned my car which is almost two years now..im 22 and i pay about 195 a month...for full coverage, and i am gald to say no problems to report..they have always been very quick to make changes andi never have a problem with them..i had to claim my wind shield and it cost me $100 deductable. give them a shot

Ok, so many companies cover our mods - but isn't that contingent on us disclosing them first? So that we pay the higher premium?

like states a few times above. USAA is the ****. They said they will cover all my mods on my FD and my 98 impreza. My grandfather was in the airforce. I am not in any service. Lucky Me! Full coverage on my FD=$80/mo

A friend of mine had Geico and had his car stolen and stripped. He hd coverage that picked up the cost of his mods (built engine, LSD, intake, exhaust, wheels, body, stereo). When he went to claim it though and showed them receipts, they would only give him 60% of the value he paid because they said that the mods "depreciate". He fought with them for months just to get them up to 75%.

Same thing happened to another friend of mine when his 240 was stolen and he was insured through Geico as well. To all you Geico people, better double check that.

Sounds reasonable. They don't give you the price of a brand new FD if yours is stolen why should they with the mods. I'm not sure that people would even pay 60% of retail on a lot of used mods if you were trying to sell them.

I plan to switch to Haggerty soon. One thing I wonder.....they *ask* you if you have had any tickets in the past FIVE years. Frankly, I may have had one back in 2001-2002, I can't remember. I used to get pulled over an awful lot b/c of the midpipe, but actually getting ticketed is a bit fuzzy. How does this work? Do they automatically run your history? Is it a nationwide database? If I did get a ticket way back then, it was on the other side of the country.....I may just call them up and be straight up with the rep and see what where it goes from there.

I got a careless driving ticket 2 years ago (I was 16 years old and dumb). It is still on my driving record but my insurance didn't pick up on it. I didn't tell them though.
