Do all FD's have an alarm?

I read on a website somewhere that all FD's left the factory with an alarm. Is this true?

I don't *think* mine has one, and I can't find a siren anywhere. Am I missing something?

I believe that they did all have a factory alarm system. There's no siren because the alarm uses the factory horn and the lights. When it goes off the horn honks and the lights turn on and off.

Whoops!

Sorry guys, I should probably have given you some information about the car...

It's a '93 Touring, JDM spec.

The car doesn't beep, or flash the lights or anything by itself. Can the factory alarm sensitivity be changed?

The car came with an infrared door unlocker thing, that when aimed at the inside of the drivers door mirror, will unlock the doors. Is this a factory feature?

Regards,
David (FD owner for 3 weeks)

All FDs came with a factory alarm....look in your center console behind the ashtray and you'll see a "security" light.

Can its "sensitivity" be adjusted, no. The factory alarm is not equipped with a shock sensor of any kind. When you lock your door manually as you get out of the car you should hear a beep and see that light in the center console turn on, thats showing the alarm is armed.

Here's a test:
- leave a window down
- lock your car up by hitting the lock switch on the door and holding the handle up when you close the door
- reach in the window, unlock the door and open it

Your horn should go off and the headlights should raise and flash alternately. Onlookers will laugh and point. Your face will turn red.

Put the key in the driver's door and turn it in the unlock direction to stop it.

The security light can burn out, but it might still be working.

Upgrading the ECU doesn't seem like it would affect the alarm. Mine still works with the PowerFC and I know the alarm has its own, seperate control box.
