disassembling stock shifter?

I'm wondering if there is a way to take the stock shifter apart? Here is what I mean: The shifter has a big metal ball as a pivot point. This is not the lower ball that extends into the trans, but the one the shifter actually pivots on. Above this ball there is a metal bushing. On my Mazdaspeed shifter, this bushing is plastic. I am trying to swap them. Can anyone help me here?

as stated in email shifter bushing slide up and off the top of the shifter and are installed in the same manner. However if you are going to throw them away and get new bushing I would just cut/break them off.
