dirty thermostat?

okay, ive noticed for a while that my radiator cap has had a small amount of what i think to be dirt. . . hopefully not oil. the problem is that i cannot tell the difference. coolant and oil are both very slippery and ethelyne glycol's smell overcomes the smell of oil. could it be dirty from someone not flushing it enough? (ive had the car for like 6-8 months) it is black in color and it shows up in small speckles on the bottom of the cap. on the thermostat it shows up as smudges like collecting dirt. could the oil be coking up on the thermostat? or is it just dirty coolant? anybody got any ideas?

Oh ****! Rotorbrain, I had the same thing in my radiator cap. If you can wipe it on a tissue and it looks like your buggers you're SOL. The overflow tank also looked like Mcdonald used grease mixed with coolant. The good thing was, after the CRC treatment, I haven't seen this **** returned.

really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im gonna puke now!!!!!!!!! okay im done. now what do you mean like boogers (i believe thats how you spell it, haha)? what is the crc exactly? is that a name brand? i saw your post on the block sealant, but im just to depressed to go check it out right now. haha. i noticed some directions on there. by using that stuff does that mean that i can NEVER use anti-freeze again? could you maybe email me some experienced how-to on that? i hate to sound like a dweeb right now, but im like super-duper broke right now and i cant afford to mess up my engine. i need to do this right. thanks for the response!!!

Generally, I agree. However in my case, the crud is there every morning when I check the press cap. [I'm sure I didn't pick my nose while I slept walk to my car and smeared my boogers in there.]
