differential plug stripped
So I went to go change my differential for the first time and noticed the plug looked a little stripped. I put a socket wrench on it and felt it slipping so I stopped out of fear. I didn't want to completely strip it. Has anybody had this problem? Any suggestions?
I can get the fill plug off no problem.

I had this problem with the fill plug. But it wasn't stripped bad enough to the point I couldn't get a wrench on it. The most common thing to do would be to use a set of vice grips and wrench those suckers down. Once you do that you should be able to kick or if your strong enough loosen it with your hand. Of course you will have to buy a new plug after you do this but you will have to purchase a new one either way.
Another thing you might want to try is to use PB blaster first to losen the threads if it's too hard to get off. Best of luck to you. I hate stripped bolts, nuts. If none of that works you can try buying a damaged bolt remover if they make them that big. It's made to grip stripped bolts.

Dan

Thanks Dan. I'll try those suggestions. I just get so nervous when nuts or bolts are stripped. They're such a pain in the a@@ to deal with.
