Question A different Mid-pipe question

Hi,
I am in search of an alternative for a catalytic converter. I do not want an aftermarket converter or to re-install used stock converters every year (as they clog). What I want is to weld in something in place of the stock converter….on a stock mod pipe. Emissions testing is not a problem. I know about the silencers (Borla and other alternatives).

It needs to:

Provide enough back pressure to prevent the massive boost creep my car has with a straight pipe.

Quiet the car as much (or very close) as a converter.

Restrictor plates would control boost… But not the noise… straight through mufflers in the mid pipe are still too loud for me.

I want something to control noise that won’t clog over time and be quiet without limiting flow more than a converter… Any ideas?

That's gonna be your best bet for what you're looking for.

Do you just ask a shop to make you a restrictor plate? And what size?

i'm contemplating using one of the new metal cats and weld it into a standard mid pipe. should last longer than the standard hi-flow ceramic cats.

do a search on here for metal cats or catalysts.
