Did stock rear spoilers on touring/PEP/etc. model come installed during production?

Hey all,

I was just wondering, during production of the cars all those years ago, did some touring models/PEG's/whatevers come with the rear spoiler installed at the factory randomly, or were they attached aftermarket, or what? Since some tourings have them and some don't have one at all, I was just curious if Mazda just randomly made some with them attached during production at the factory.

I should look on my window sticker and see if it says anything.

Thanks guys!

I believe they were available as dealer-installed options. I've heard vague rumors about sunroofed R1/2's being available from the factory, but I've seen no proof.

Most were dealer installed options according to everything I've read.

Unless it was an R1 and/or R2, the rear wing/front lip was installed by the Dealer. Usually, all OEM options are installed by the selling Dealer.

Thanks for the replies.

I didn't see anything on my window sticker. Would the dealers install it prior to sale (without a buyer), or would whoever buys the car have to request it?

Either way. Some dealers added a spoiler on the Base models whan they came off the trucks as a selling point. Some dealers will do that. Then again, the owner might have taken the car back afterwards and had the spoiler added. My Touring had an oil cooler added afterwards so anything is possible.

An FD I was looking at before getting mine had a dealer installed R2 wing. It was installed after purchase, and they did a terrible job. A rubber gasket was crooked, which allowed water to enter the hatch over the years, which led to pretty bad rust.

Must be that little plastic air deflector that's installed in front of the sunroof. Didn't know it was offered as an OEM option???

The Sunroof Deflector, Hatch Sunshade, and Mudguards were all dealer supplied Mazda Branded Accessories (ie never a factory installed option) the rear spoiler & front lip could be dealer installed on any car or ordered as a factory installed option.

Yeh, there were a whole bunch of these along with the aluminum door scuff plates, bra, car cover, etc. Have an accessory catalog at home

Those are some interesting facts to find out about the spoiler and front lip. In reference to the sunroof deflector here is a pic of it on my 94 Touring model. I have since taken it off because I just didn't like the way it disrupted the lines of the car.
