Hello,

Can anyone tell me where I can find a diagnostic anilyzer for a 1993 Mazda RX-7. Also In the work manual they keep refering to SST and a DTS 1000. What are they referring to when they use those terms.

By this, I assume you mean something that indicates what codes the ecu is throwing? You don't need that, you can ground one of the pins in the diagnostic port and count the check engine light flashes.

An SST is their term for "special service tool" for that process. The tool will be indicated at the beginning of the Section.

 

For a service code 43, 44, 45, 49, that's a lot of check engine light flashes to count, and what if you mis-count? Better to pay the bucks and take to the dealer or some shop with the right SST (you bunch of cheap-asses )

 

I dont know about you, but I havent had any trouble counting the codes. They dont exactly flash real fast or anything. Besides its not like it gives you one shot at reading it either. They will keep repeating, and only takes a second to recount. Save the money, just jump ten and ground and count away. my 2 cents.

 

The device they refer to in the manual appears to allow you to operate different devices (ex: solenoids) to verify they're functioning. I wouldn't mind having this type of diagnostic tool...

Check the function of the solenoids with the engine hot and see if actuators are pulled in, etc. without powering them through the wiring harness. Nice.

 

What tools would I need to have to be able to find a short? And what procedure should I follow? Also what does DTS 1000 mean? Thanks!
