Dang, How about a positive post for once?
Just installed a rebuild I did myself. All good used or new parts and it cost me about $1300 I think for the core and the rebuild. Time on the other hand...well... it is a good thing I am doing this for fun.
When I started it and it cranked over twice and started. It just sat there and idled. Vacuum has come up to about 16 inches and it now has 1000 miles. I have touched the idle once. The only issue so far has been one hose clamp and the subsequent loss of 1 gallon of coolant.
I installed a Koyo and did all the cooling mods...FC switch, etc. temp gage. Temps run rock solid even with the 100 degree days this week. Only time the temp changes is during idling or in a drive thru.
Every time I get in this car, I have a big smile on my face. I consider this an experiment to prove that the 7 could be a reliable car if Mazda would have fixed the few little issues that remained. You mod it though, and you are on your own accordingly. I figure I am well under 300 horse and I hope to drive this a long time...
So there... a positive post for once...This has been a great project and I am thinking about rebuilding the other core. Pretty easy looking back, although I was hating life in the middle of the engine swap.
Anyone else having luck with the hot weather?

I think these cars are pretty reliable, I've daily driven mine since 1996. One engine rebuild because the stock radiator blew and dumped all my coolant. Even after that happened, the engine lasted another year before it gave out under a hard pull on a cold night.
Funny thing is I'm not half as **** about the car as most of the people on this site.

IVe been contemplating purchasing a spare motor to rebuild myself. I would love to learn how to do this so i can always have a spare motor just incase. I have been finding myself unsatisfied with power after driving with over 400 whp for like 2 years. I now want to build a bad *** bridgeported motor and maybe add a little spray to have some fun. If i have a spare motor, i wont worry so much about blowing the other one.

My FD is treating me well. I have been using it as my daily driver for the last few months and no problems so far. It runs cool in 100F+ heat (with the AC blasting ), drives great on short city trips, long highway trips, and spirited cruises. And it put down 321whp the other day in 95F heat at 11 psi... sequential too!
