we need details
* Single turbo (RX6)
* Was running 10 psi that day. Ultimately will probably run 15 once I get it on a dyno to verify A/R's
* Most people end up adding duct work, such as a shroud to force all the air through the FMIC and radiator instead of around it, or ducts providing clean air to the radiator instead of just air flowing through the FMIC.
* My radiator's a Koyo, standard mount
Be glad to answer any other questions....
Ive been driving my FMIC around Ft Lauderdale for more than 4 yrs and on the hottest of days the car runs at 180 degrees.If the job is done correctly it should actually give you better temps.
When you get to Florida give us a call and stop buy the shop and Ill gladly show you a couple of cars set up with FMICs and well go for a ride so you can see for yourself.

Manny,
I believe the majority of people who use FD's for track time will agree that a large smic is your best bet. So stop dilly dallying and get the M2 large IC/Kevin Wyums I think Jason has them in stock now and run atleast 12lbs of boost errr I meen 18lbs and get some NOS baby NOS...

Oh, I thought the ASP large ICs were backordred at the Rx7 Store? That's why I was condering the Greddy FMIC 2-rows (they're apparently in stock with special pricing $890 or something with a few committed people)?
BTW, which FMIC do you have on the Montego Blue FD? It looks like an Apex GT? How did you like it?
Do you think an Apex dual intake will work with the ASP large IC in place?

Daily driver in australian heat (top of 37C today). I did one blast to about 230clicks (whatever 6000rpm in 5th is anyway) today and it just cracked 94C. Otherwise it sits quite happily below 90. I should add that I intentionally left a gap either side of the IC of about 2-3 inches to improve rad airflow. I should also add that I'm running a stock rad with no ducting so I'm keeping an eye on things continually!

SleepR1, I have the Apex'i FMIC. Rotorsports racing (www.rotorsportsracing.com) is in Kannapolis, NC. Been very happy with them, although they may be a hair more expensive than some others. But they're so convenient to me, and they have a good rep, so it was worth it to me. The engine feels good and strong, but I've never driven a FD without a street port
.
You may want to be careful about remans. I've heard lots of bad things about them, but I have heard good things about Malloy Mazda, so maybe they cancel each other out.....

Rotorsports Racing is a bit more than KD Rotary. Dave's been good to me on email, so I will stay with him. Dave also has a great rep in rotary motor building
I'm close to pulling the trigger on the Greddy 2-row FMIC. Jason's finding out about his modified Apex intake that will work with the Greddy 2-row. The Greddy Airinx is on back-order apparently... I'm getting the FMIC kit with Greddy elbow and a Nippondenso Comp fuel pump.
Just gotta make that call to Malloy Mazda to send Dave Barninger my new Reman for him to tear down and BUILD UP

If anyone is looking for the fully polished two row R-spec core (24R) with fully polished piping, I have one, brand new, in the original box, never installed and ready to ship to you. Ordered the wrong one, sigh...the piping is for a single turbo setup. Check out my post in the third gen parts for sale section. $1180! Can't beat that price.

This is EXACTLY what Dave Barninger (KD Rotary) told me, when I was considering the Greddy 3-row FMIC with my Japan spec sequential twins. He says TOO MUCH PRESSURE drop because of the much larger air space volume to fill in the 3-row Greddy FMIC core. Thus I'm going with the 2-row for twin turbos (sorry Michel
) Jason Baughman has a hell of a deal going with the Greddy 2-row (not sure if the pipes are polished though?)
I'm curious, is Cam running stock sequential twins or a big single turbo?

Thing is, isn't pressure drop caused by restriction and not so much by volume? They may be intertwined somewhat I dunno, but once the intake tract IS pressurized, then the overall volume of the core shouldn't matter. The amount of time it takes to fill that volume would be lag. I guess that at any given time, pressure is being increased/decreased and thus, a larger core would cause a slower response. But if you have a big single, that might not be much of an issue? Maybe Dave was referring to the old core....

Cam used to have it non seq. but it is now single
rx7tt95
yes and no what you say is correct in a sense but from many trial and errors (and Ive had plenty)Ive found that the more volume the more you have to add boost,especially with small turbos(stock).Try to think of it like water.Once its filled up w/ water(lag) you now have twice or more water to get from point a to point b And the boost works the same because now your trying to get twice the volume of what the turbos are used to or designed for from point a to point b.I hope I cleared this up a little

Just a quick question for everyone. The Apex'i GT is about the same size as the GReddy 2 Row correct? I'm going to be running the BNR stage 2 twins and I'd like to go with the Apex'i FMIC. Mainly because I have major issues with GReddy products. But that's just a personal thing I guess. Well, I'd appreciate some info on the question of size between the two FMIC's. Thanx.

I took MJW advice about 7 months ago about the Blitz FMIC and it is the best mod thus far. I live also in Los Angeles and even on a hot day, my car has no signs of overheating. Even in traffic. OH, and I have my stock radiator still. MJW gave me advice to install the FMIC also. The Blitz one is very complete from the polish pipings to the radiator brackets. Hope that helps.
