CYM paint matches

My dad owns a body shop and we are currently working on a good match for my cym. we spent 10 hours today on it and I think we got it. My car is faded so its pretty lite yellow on the hood top of fenders and roof. I am doing a color match for the headlight covers. Here is a good start if someone wants to know.

The base we used is a bmw color yellow, its very whitish for a yellow, Any dupont paint supply can mix it up for you, just ask to see their paint chip books.

Then add an lighter orange to tint it to your exact car color, depends on condition of paint, the more orange you add the darker the color will be, remember while mixing, DO A LITTLE AT A TIME, you can always add, but you cant extract a color from a color, and yellow is very expensive, so is the pearl(midcoat)

The dupont color for for CYM is J9 its a tri stage.

The second stage is a pearl, they call it the mid coat. Here is the tricky part. Get the mid coat mixed WITHOUT the black toner(Dupont paint supply). It will tend to make the yellow look green.

Then spray the midcoat(which contains the white pearl, 1001s). The more you put on, the different the shade in the color will be. I recomend doing a sprayout on a large puddy knife, and keep track of the amount of coats you spray. This will help you while spraying the car so your not experimenting on a panel.

This got me exactly to the color of my paint. Just because your CYM is lighter doesn't mean the paint is bad, if someone tells you this they are full of ****. Yellow fades very quickly due to its transparency, the clear ontop of the color isnt bad unless its starting to crack or blemish on top.

And remember, the amount of orange needed on top as apposed to the sides of the car will differ, so you will have to add more orange for the gas door than the hood.

Good luck with the paint matches. If the jackass who did my HL covers would have taken the time to do this years ago I wouldnt have to mess with it.
