Custom UnderTray w/ Sheet Metal Alu.

Well I was reading some posts and I found some stuff on this subject but not much. As some of you know I got in a semi-minor accident and my undertray is destroyed. I would like to know if anyone has made an undertray using sheetmetal and how it was done, how did you direct the air up to cool. I'm mainly interested in this because I'm sure it will be alot stronger than the oem undertray. Anyone who knows what I'm talking about mind posting some ideas/tips, thanks!

Honestly, the stock undertray is plastic and very durable... not to mention cheap to come by and fairly complex in shape. I'd just pick up another one, and spend your efforts sealing up the gaps.

yep stock. it is pretty sturdy and should last the life of the car, hence no more minor accidents.

Search through Damian's posts. I remember he had a write up on his track car that was amazing. Here is another post that isn't bad. Scroll down and you'll see some good pics.

If you have the stock bumper there is no better undertray than the stock one. If you hit something with a metal one it'll bend, plastic is remarkably flexible before cracking. Also the metal one will be more prone to take out other parts while it is being torn off by road debris.

If you have an aftermarket bumper you'd probably want some ducting.

Here is a pic of one I did.

It still used the stock undertray but added ducting to get air into the radiator.

I fabricated one from sheetmetal. With the Feed nose, Blitz FMIC, Koyo, ST swaybars and the RB swaybar brace it was impossible to mount the factory one.
Basically I formed a single piece of sheetmetal into a wide tophat shape, struturally supported it with aluminum strips and sealed it with foam. It boxes in the IC and radiator perfectly.
Considering there is no front bumper support under the FEED nose the last thing I am worried about is the undertray causing more damage in an accident.
I will try to dig up a pic, it is barely noticable on the car.
