"what is the biggest advantage to shorter IC pipes? is there a pressure drop with longer pipes"

It seems to me, the shorter the pipes, the less pressure drop and better throttle response

I'd suspect the rest of your air temp cooling is coming from the ceramic coatings helping to keep the hot air from absorbing into the manifold system and heating up the air. Especailly since you have the "phenolic spacer" which I assume is somthing between the engine and lim similar to a type of gasket with low thermal conductivity."
Not to make a big deal about it, but I'm getting 5-10C over ambient, summer or winter. My engine compartment used to get so hot in the summertime that I had to use a rag to touch the hood rod. Now, the engine compartment stays very cool. Yes, I think the other stuff is helping, but getting the radiator out does wonders
