I long time ago, when I went to a speedvision world challenge race in Portland, I saw the Realtime Acura NSX, with a big intercooler up front (kind of like a SMIC), but they had the vented hood, so the air went straight from the front of the car out the top of the hood, over the car. It was really cool.
Very similar to how Ferrari does it with the F50 radiator.
I've wanted to do something similar to that..but I would have to make my own hood, as I don't think any of the current hoods would provide enough venting.

this setup is not possible on a front engine car like the FD since you have an engine in the way that would not allow the air to flow in that fashion.

I am not sure if rotaryextreme is still doing the IC but we still are.
We are having our kit components made right now as I speak.
If you are interested please email us at rx7hoods@atihun.com.
More to come on the thread when all of the pieces are finished, and when we can get the thread unlocked. We have been working on this since we started with the hoods (8 months ago) but custom stuff takes forever.

I don't know if Rotary extreme was still planning to do this, but...
We're working on finishing the CWR design with the mazspeed replicas we have. The duct should be done in a week or so, and the IC will be a very large stock mount with all brackets and piping. Basically we're making a similar SMIC and duct as the CWR, or an angled M2 large(but a bit bigger) Not sure yet whether to vent the rear of the IC to the vents, or to leave open so engine/radiator heat can escape as well at an idle. then at speed the IC would route most of the air through the hood vents as the path of least resistance. Ducts should be done in a week or so, and will fit the CWR IC's that many have, but don't have vents. Also full kits in ~ 1 month. No costs yet determined, but if you are interested shoot an e-mail to Attila here:
rx7hoods@atihun.com
We'll let you know when the ducts are done/ when full kits are availiable. We already have the hoods in FG/CF.

However, the FD engine is set far enough back in the engine bay to allow for something like this to work. From all the SMICs I've seen, the only one I would want to try it on is the Crooked Willow, because it's at an angle.

Sorry guys. I have been very busy with the group buys on the bodykit stuff but after the group buy orders are fulfilled, I will concentrate on the intercooler project and also a ball bearing turbo kit. The project should start in June.
The intercooler should have a outlet duct to channel the air out of the hood and the hood vent should be large enough or you will have too much back pressure. A proper made duct with the right material should prevent intercooler heatsoak as well.
The Horizontal mount IC working with a vented hood and proper ducting will have much less heatsoak than a SMIC and at the same time, it will not block the air flow to the radiator to cause any possible overheating issues.
I am glad to hear that Atihun and Mike are working on something like this as well. This will give people more options to choose from. Good luck on the project.

Why did SR discontinue the HMIC?
Just wondering if anyone knew why SR stopped making the HMIC?
* I think a Panspeed would provide even more cooling than the Knight Sports.
I love the V-Mount kits!
Has anyone actually had a heat soaked FMIC? I've heard stories about actaul race cars getting heat soaked but has anyone on the forum had there FMIC heat soaked?

Finally got time to work on those. Both the V Mount and Horizontal mount IC will be available by the end of September 2002. Photos coming soon.

I can't say anything until everything is done. If there is going to be a group buy, it will be posted on my website. Thanks.

I am going to use my car to make the prototype V Mount and H Mount IC. The first V Mount is already pre-paid so would you like to be the first guy to get the H Mount and get some discount?? Email me if you do. Thanks.
