My cup holder is located in the area that I use a cup when I play baseball, which ironically holds the cup. I'm confused now??

HERE THEY ARE!!!

I tried to upload the pics, but the message board must be on it monthly cycle

... but anyway, here are the links the pics are located.

These are a few that I took on the curing jig... notice the 20 lbs dumbbell applying pressure to the cup holder... as indestructible as one can get

Wow that's tight...it looks real nice. I dunno if I want to hack up my center peice, BUT...it still looks real nice. Props to ya.

Oh and how did you get it to be so sturdy? Because usually that center area where the cupholder is, that's where a lot of people lean on, and the plastic underneath it often cracks...

Did you insert a little metal plate or something of the sort to reinforce it?

Looks like a factory feature. Two in-line holders wouldn't be a bad idea.

WOAH woah... We had a good idea about A cup holder. SLOW DOWN lol. This ain't no luxury sedan

Getting another cup holder is like getting back seats...they DON'T belong in a sports car hehe (I think even ONE cupholder is walking on ice as it is!). That's what you have a passenger for!

That looks awesome. I agree with FDNewbie, that i wouldn't want to hack the center console, but it still looks nice. I would definetly get one.

One thing that kinda worried me is the depth of the cup holder. It doesn't look that deep, meaning that most of the drink would be above the holder. And if the drink was kinda tall, its easier to spill, which is something every FD owner dreads.

Also how tight is the cup holder? Did the soda can slip right in, or was it a snug fit?

Well, mine was cracked too, so I took the cut-out circle of plastic and used a soldering iron to "weld" it together. It probably made it twice as strong.

That area below the console is only 2" deep, so that's as deep as I can go with it.
A soda can is about 2 1/2" dia and the I.D. of the cup holder is 2 3/4", so it has very little room to move around. And besides, this is located in the center of the car, which remains relatively level while driving unless you roll the car. If you are able to turn over the drink while driving, then you probably should be drinking one at that moment.

Looks great! I'm just interested in if you plan on producing some kind of kit to sell to the rest of us, and if the installation process would be difficult.

Nice work!

Not trying to be a dick, but here are some things to think about for your cup holder project.

It only fits one size drink. If you are not drinking a can soda, you got no cup holder.

As another member mentioned, the depth of the holder may be a problem when going 0 to 60 in 4

I have the holder that fumanchu posted, and it works great because it is adjustable, 4 inches deep, and has a little spill tray on it, Just in case. If you could get a holder like this to somehow mount around console behind the seat you would have a kick *** set up. Maybe take 2 of these and somehow connect them, then wrap them over the console.

Well, this might be difficult for some to duplicate, so for those who would like one can ship their console to me to perform this mod. The cost will be $35 plus the cost of return shipping. Or if you are local and want to avoid the shipping cost, just drop it off. Since I work M-F and can only do this on the weekend, I will only accept so many per week. This will expedite the turnaround time and avoid a lot of down time for your car.

I have a better Idea...

Ok so the depth is a problem cause you run into the tranny tunnel....

Well why not just cut into the tranny tunnel, you should be able to get about 1-2 inches more before you hit the tranny...

That way if you have a cup of coffee it will be kept nice and warm by the heat the transmission is giving off.

Yes I guess you are screwed with ice cold drinks, but just as well you are screwed if you want to fit a supersized (god forbid) coke into that cup holder thats meant for a soda can....

i think fumahchu's is much better. if you really feel the need to have a cupholder, adjustable is probably a good idea.

since i usually drink bottled water anyway it doesnt matter. i think i'd rather just have empty soda bottles and pour whatever it is i'm drinking into the bottles.

Thanks for the constructive criticism. This cup holder will hold most fast food drink cups and large fountain drinks with tapered bottoms.
I came up with this idea to avoid any add-on, clip-type, non-custom style drink holder. I think my idea is sleek and does not deter from the looks of the interior.
This design was not made for 4 second 0-60 sprints or road course sessions around Laguna Seka, it was designed to hold a refreshing can soda or cup drink during road trips to RX-7 meets and car shows. I could have used it when I went to Rotary Revolution, my drives to Birmingham for club meetings, weekend trip to Atlanta to hang with the SE group at NOPI ... So I apologize for not designing this to fit your needs as well.

i like your idea, its very good..

although all the drinks i drink are in bottles so whenever i want to take a sip, i unscrew the cap, take a gulp, put the cap back on and throw the bottle on the passenger seat..

no problems yet..

Tell that to Porsche. Their 911's have two cup holders that slide out of the dash.

Unless of course,......you don't consider the 911 a sports car.
