Current thinking on Smoking Turbos
Current thinking on Smoking Turbos
OK, what is the current thinking on replacing a set of smoking turbos (bad oil seals I am guessing.)
(1) Has anyone put new turbos on an old engine without worring that the engine will later hand-grenade and take out the new turbos when it goes? Or do you just live with it and take a chance?
(2) Does RX7Store have the best price on 99-Spec Turbos?
(3) how long does the swap take?

My twins went bad about 3,000 miles ago, replaced them with a low-mileage set I bought off of the forums, and haven't had any problems. Stock engine currently has 58,000.
I think labor is somewhere around 4 hours each way(not positive)? I guess it depends how much **** you have in there...

Hello.
I don't mean to come across as being "geed". Don't really know if its a bad thing a good thing, or maybe something I need to work on! lol.
I have seen so many people over the years just rebuild their turbos and come out having to do it several times which gets expensive and agrivating really quick. I have been down every road with every generation RX7 from mildly modded to single turbo/porting with good success. I want my customers cars to be problem free, reliable and perform, so I advise accordingly.
If you are running an engine that is higher milage, ofcoarse you are going to have greater probability of failure. The turbine wheels in the stage 3's are just a phone call away if something was to happen, no big deal.
