Cruise Control: lights up but does nothing

'93 Touring

Cruise control on switch lights up, dashboard displays cruise on but when you press the set button nothing seems to happen. Have tried it various times and still nothing.

Searched and found some references to bad clutch switches, but didn't find any details.

Is there a most often problem for the cruise?

Thanks

could be several things to look at, clutch switch, brake switch, or the speed sense. Is your speedometer reading irratic ?

ppritchard, my symptoms were the same as yours. Turned out to be the throttle cable near the driver's side strut tower, underneath a black plastic cover. The jam nut inside had backed itself off. Tightened the tension on the cable just right before it actually pulls the engine throttle, locked the jam nut down, has worked like a dream ever since.

Speedometer is steady as she goes. I'll start checking the mentioned switches.
