couple coolant sensor questions???

long story short i just finished my rebuild and my stock engine temp gauge is pegged on hot all the time i checked my coolant sensor connections and they are plugged in.

so i pulled and checked the voltage of the coolant thermo sensor and it was ok so i must have a break in my brittle wiring harness.

my questions are. behind the coolant filler neck there are 2 sensors right next to each other the top one is the coolant thermo sensor, but what is the bottom one?

also i was thinking of running a couple new wires from the sensor to the ecu to get me by until i can buy a new engine harness. can anyone tell me what color wires run into the ecu from the sensor/sensors and if there are any other places they lead to before hitting the ecu? i hope that makes sense.

i havent driven my car in 8 months and now its getting warm out and i just want to get my break in miles done so i can let her rip but this one last problem is holding me back. any help would be awesome!

On the waterpump housing, you have the Coolant Thermosensor and the Thermoswitch.

The dash gauge gets it reading from a little sensor on the rear iron near the oil pressure sensor.
