Question Could Stock rims be repainted? If so, what color is best ??

If painted will it last ? ALso, does it come out looking like the original stock finish or would it look like someone painted the rim?? I've heard of people painting their rims "Gunmetal" isn't that a darker silver than stock?? Any pics. appreciated.

Gunmetal is hardly silver. It looks like a deep gray, but it DOES look pretty good. I am considering painting mine Gunmetal. Actually, some people may even adivse to powdercoat them. Powder coating them will offer superior protection against the heat and brake dust.

That is what I want my rims to look like... powder coating around here is like $100 a wheel. I was thinking of getting my friend to sand blast & paint them all for $20. I'm not sure yet.

I had my stockers beed blasted then painted silver again. So far so good. They've only seen like a months worth of action though. They do look very nice though.

Anyone tried the stuff for refinishing your wheels that I think Grotts sells? All the finish has worn off my wheels, too, which makes it a beeyaatsch to get the brake dust off them.

Might have to check into that powdercoating.....

Those rims are retired fo rthe most part now... Only used once in a blue moon..

they are powdercoated.. I did it myself before selling all the stuff.. It took a ton of time and effort... But the end product is worth it.. I wish i still had the ****.. i would do another set in a few colors... If your interetsed.. shoot me an email and maybe ill buy the stuff back and help a few people out..

The color is a custom blend of pellets... im not really wanting to reveal what exactly.. And they are bonded on well! No chipping from ignorant tire people

probably $50-70 per rim.. depending on if i need to remove tires, sandblast etc...

It will hide rash to some degree... Its like spraying a coat of plastic on the rim.. it will get some... but nothing major...

From what I understand now...powdercoating is the only way to go. I have priced the job per rim at ~ $80 per rim. I am looking to get a metalic silver. Is it possible to get metalic color in Powdercoating ??

I just went by the shop and the owner told me it would run me $80 powdercoated and clearcoated silver. That also includes sandblasting them. How much does this run in your area??

If you decide to paint, suggest you bead blast rather than sand blast. Then use a quality primer. After applying paint (2 coats min.), apply a clear sealer. If you have access to a software called PageMaker, you can click on the wheel(s) from a digtial pic and change the color until you are happy.

That's how much it costs to Polish each rim down here. Realize...I'm in New Orleans, LA. Things are a lot cheaper down here in NAWLINS lol.

The shop in my town will powdercoat for $25 CAD/wheel.

Blasting them is another $15/wheel.

Total is $40/wheel CAD, pretty good if you ask me. But I had to phone around alot fo find this shop.

But if you have to remove the tire and put it back on then your total cost goes up. I am going to get a set powdercoated when I have to change tires to hide some of the cost.
