Could someone please tell me what this is????

I bought the car and I think the wires to this were disconected. I'm trying to figure out:
a. What it is?
b. Is it okay for thsi to be disconnected?
It is located at the front of the engine under the turbo housing. It has a Yellow a Blue and a Black wire dangling from it that come from the engine wiring harness.
Thanks in advance...

looks like the oil metering pump. does it bolt to the front cover? if it is it controls oil that is squirted into the engine to lubricate the seals.

What you have circled is the oil metering pump, which is a VERY critical part of the engine. The harness for the OMP goes under the water pump housing over to the driver's side of the engine and plugs in near the oil fill neck.

If the wires to the OMP are broken or goofed up, get a good used OMP and swap it out. The OMP injects oil into the engine to keep the apex seals lubricated, and without it you're looking at some problems - accelerated engine wear, all kinds of badness. The ECU should throw a check engine light if it's not good/wires broken.

BTW, a used one should be pretty inexpensive, dunno what the going price is.

Well I think what happened was the wires got cut by the pullies, I did notice a nominal drop in oil pressure but not significant. Maybe drove 5 miles and put it up. I noticed there is a plug that is maybe pink? going into it and there is also a black wire which contains the 3 wires I stated above. That black wire is the one that got cut. The plug doesn't have a wire going to it at all. Could you please help witha detailed description of what's wrong? The black wire seems to go directly into the engine wiring harness. Does anyone have a pic of the pump out of the car so I can get a positive ID? Thanks Dustin

Put premix in your gas tank now. Using premix will allow you to run without an OMP. It's up to you whether to fix the OMP or keep adding premix.

Thats the oil metering pump no doubt. The harness runs across the front of the motor under the water pump. The connector should be by the engine hook. Plug it back it. If it doesn't work replace the pump. Run premix until you can do so or you will wear your apex seals very quickly.

Looks like the two wires going to the pump must have had plugs on them coming out of the wiring harness, now there are no plugs they must have gotten chewed off. Or they weren't there EVER....Just bought the car 2 weeks ago so I'm not sure of it. The engine only has 3k on it, but what kind of trouble am I in if the pump hasn't been running this whole time? Is the engine shot? Are there signs? What should I do next? Buy a new OMP and replace the plugs? Thanks
nickle and dimed to death my a$$ more like $50 and $100 to death

are you using a stock ecu? the car will be in limp mode if theres a problem with the OMP.

other than a fault code on the stock ecu, the easiest way to tell if its dead is to borrow someones power fc and check the sensor screen, vmop will flash if its dead.

the connector is next to the lower pressure tank

Running PFC, I'm pretty sure that the OMP wires got into the pullies and shredded 5 miles ago and that when that happened the bare wires shorted out against some metal and the PFC rebooted. Sensor is showing 0v. But that is to be expected. Anybody know the ratio of premix per gas tank of gas? Thanks

if you can see if you can solder the wires back, removing the omp while the engine and turbos are still in the car is a HUGE headache.

I bought a used Metering Oil Pump for about $80, (A new one will run $1400) and installed it. It takes a couple of hours to do the install, but I'm anovice and I did it, I also run premix just in case this ever happens again. Also I routed the wire harness over the engine and down (which exposes them to more heat) to keep them outta the way of the pulley...Hope that helps...Hit me up if you need any specifics...

Thanks for the info Sirus,

Im gona do the same and buy a used OMP...when I saw the price of a new one I nearly crapped myself!

I will probobly route the harness differently as you did too.

Can you remember what needed to be stripped out of the car to get at the OMP??
Also, did you need to get under the car to do it, or could the whol job be done from the top??

Thanks again,
George.

If you have a PFC, you can check whether the OMP is working properly by looking at the Sensor Check screen on the PFC's Commander.

While I haven't done this job, I remember things being awfully crowded with the undertray off - radiator support, cooling hoses, oil cooler piping, subframe, power steering rack, etc.

I changed the crush washers on my OMP lines from the top. With the intake and belt off there is some room to get to it.

Sorry to dissapoint you but i am pretty sure that you have to remove the turbos to get access to the OMP bolts.....

I didn't have to remove the turbos, but getting the new pump on with the o-ring in place is a p.i.t.a.

Im in the middle of this job at the moment, what a nightmare!! I really struggled getting the old OMP off nd then the new OMP on! I decided to leave the heatsheild off to make it easier to put back.....then I broke one of the banjo bolts that hold the oil lines on aaahhhh!!

Had to pack it up for today until I get a new bolt and will finish tomrrow!

Im gona route the harness over the top of the alternator rather than near the pulleys again!!
