cooling idea modification!
RX007, the reason the car gets so hot in traffic is because there isn't any air flowing through the radiator while you're sitting still. The factory ECU is designed with emissions in mind, and it waits until the car gets pretty hot to turn the fans on. The reason behind this is that a hotter engine will be cleaner for smog purposes.
If you want your car to run cooler, you can change the temperature at which the fans turn on, or add a manual fan switch. Check the FAQ at https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/ , there is a link called "Fan Mod" or something like that.
Another thing that is good to do is make sure you've got fresh coolant, with the proper ratio of water-to-coolant. The owner's manual for your car will say what percentage water to use, depending on the climate you live in.

Just to piggyback on what Scott's saying, you can buy the FC (2nd gen RX-7) thermoswitch, which is plug and play, and use it to replace the stock FD thermoswitch. This enables the fans to automatically kick in at a lower temp.
Specifically, the FD thermoswitch causes the fans to turn on on to LOW speed at 105C (221F). The fans go to MED at 108C (226F). The fans will only go to HIGH if temps are above 108C with the A/C on. With the FC thermoswitch, the fans come on at 95C. Fans come on sooner = car stays cooler = engine stays happier.

FMIC=overheating false
On a hot day in traffic my stock setup ran hotter 106-108C in traffic in Florida.
The current setup FMIC with a fluildyene is about 104-106C in traffic with no belly tray w/ single stock oil cooler.
On the highway neither presented a problem. I'm pretty sure that the scoot style hood will drop those temps by another 2-4C.

Front-mount + traffic = no air to the intercooler..but there's less clutter in the engine bay itself to collect heat
Stock-mounted IC + traffic = more heat in the engine bay = heated intercooler and piping = even MORE ineffective.
Thermostat-engaged electric radiator fans are your friend. Meaning, they turn on at a certain temp, and turn off at a certain temp. Whether the car is on or off. Best idea ever.
Oh, and lol @ the A/C button thing...me too, man. Me too. 188C in traffic isn't too bad with stock IC and radiator, I guess. :o|
I have the fan mod also. I can turn on fan on/off at max speed whenever I want.
But this will not help with FMIC and bad traffic. I even have hood vents. So I've stop using the FD as daily driver for now until I get a V mount. Good luck with your findings.
