i had my throttle body replaced with a polished one and now my coolant temp light on stays on, wtf!?!! the mechanic said while putting in FMIC kit some coolant did come out and he told me to keep putting some in after i drive it so it can flow all the way thru. recently i saw that coolant was leaking from the hose that connects to where you pour the coolant in and i just replaced it this morning. is it true that i need to drive and add coolant until its full because the system may have air pockets in it and burps (so to speak)? thanks

 

Yes, you will have to keep filling it until the air works its way out of the system.

BTW, an FD does not have a coolant temp light

BTW, that is a coolant level warning light...

1. Do a search on "burping"
2. It's more efficient to add coolant at the cap on the thermostat housing when the engine is cold - this will fill the engine much more quickly than letting it suck back in from the overflow tank.

 

oooooooooooh ok. thanks guys. i was a little worried but now im ok. i bought plenty of coolant. i managed to drive it 2 hours from the nopi nationals with the light on and the temperature on the gauge was actually 10 degrees lower than what it normally does.

 

ok, im getting fed up. the coolant light still stays on and alot of times after i drive her and let her cool down, i take the cap off and its still full!! WTF!! this has been continous since my first post. the only thing i can think of is to do a complete coolant flush to get rid of all air. any other suggestions?

 

Did you burp the system?

 

The coolant level light comes on when the sensor in the tstat housing is not submerged. If there is coolant up to the cap, then you've got something wrong with the electrical circuit.

and yeah, you need to burp the system. I just did the tight fitting funnel method, let the fans come on and waited til no more bubbles came from the coolant in the funnel.
