Question coolant Overflow tank: Where is the Hose located that sucks back coolant..Top or side

Was wondering where the hose feeds into the overflow tank which sucks coolant back into the system. Also, at what level does the coolant in the overflow tank need to be at in order for it to suck coolant back into the system? TIA

The hose that goes to the overflow tank comes from the top neck of the AST. Just maintain the level in the overflow within the marks on the dipstick.
