Coolant is not getting sucked back from the overflow bottle, help?

Oh, and one more thing - the customer's car I worked on this weekend was pushing coolant into the overflow tank and not recovering it. Suspecting a leak in the rubber line to the overflow tank, I removed it, plugged one end, and hooked the Mityvac vacuum pump up to it. Held 20" of vacuum for 5 minutes, no sweat. This is the ORIGINAL hose on a 112,000 mile '93.

Anyhow, that's a good test for that line.

hmm.... so what was the problem with it not being able to retrieve coolant when it cools down. that's what i'm trying to figure out, and my overflow is just getting a higher level all the time. is it possible for that hose since it's soft silicone to kink when it vacuums?

if the cap is no good it will also not pull fluid from the expansion tank

my caps are like 4-5 months old, (i think i mentioned 2 somewhere) i don't think that would be the problem, i have like 2 caps though, none of em were bad, i thought this was a problem early on.. so i bought a new one, the new one is on the car now, i'll try putting the old one back
