Coolant is not getting sucked back from the overflow bottle, help?

Oh, and one more thing - the customer's car I worked on this weekend was pushing coolant into the overflow tank and not recovering it. Suspecting a leak in the rubber line to the overflow tank, I removed it, plugged one end, and hooked the Mityvac vacuum pump up to it. Held 20" of vacuum for 5 minutes, no sweat. This is the ORIGINAL hose on a 112,000 mile '93.
Anyhow, that's a good test for that line.

my caps are like 4-5 months old, (i think i mentioned 2 somewhere) i don't think that would be the problem, i have like 2 caps though, none of em were bad, i thought this was a problem early on.. so i bought a new one, the new one is on the car now, i'll try putting the old one back
