Coolant light trouble need advice

Ok last night I went to the track and on my way home and just as I was driving in my friends driveway my coolant light went on and the loud buzz started. I **** im my pants and my Auto meter gauge said 180F whew. Oil temps on my auto meter gauge were about 160F. I look under my car and saw the Evans coolant dripping. My heart sunk. I opened up the hood and saw that the hose that is suppose to be connected to my AST was cracked. BTW I don't have an AST ( I just have a hose connected and sealed off with a bolt and clamp). I noticed that the coolant was leaking out of the cracked hose. So I got a better hose and clamped it off. I didn't have any coolant with me so I decided to drive it home very carefully.

Driving home was the most uncomfortable ride I have ever taken. Anyway my Factory gauge was off the roof it was pinged all the way past H the whole way home with the low coolant light on, but my autometer gauges didn't go past 180F on the water or Oil so I thought I was ok. Continued driving home. I got home and immediately poored some evans coolant in and it only took about 1/5th of the gallon to fill the car. I started up the car and the coolant light came off and the stock gauge dopped to normal. Autometer gauges didnt go past 180F. No leaks so far and car seems to be running fine. Any suggestions on what I should do to check if the engine is ok? I turned on the engine and there isn't any coolant smell out the exhaust. Am I just paranoid or what?

Well were should I start. As for the car it may be fine you just have to drive it to see if it start doing any thing iregular. If you insisted on driving it home you should of added water at least to the cooling system, also never take a radiator cap off when the car is not total cooled down you could be seriously burned.

There is a reson mazda put the temp and level sensor so high up on the water jacket. When most people see thier water temp peged and a light that says low coolant they stop and turn the car off. Why? Becouse some thing is wrong.
