coolant light going off

ok whell it only happens when i start the car when its cold.. i just turn off the car for about 10 sec then turn it back on and its ok... it has coolant.. the first time it did it when i started it and letting it warm up i turned it off and tryed to fill it but then it just overflowed... i cheaked the ast hose because before it had a crack in it and thats what made it go off before now i dont see any cracks or rips or anything in there... anyone know what it could Be?

Have you gotten all of the air pockets out of your cooling system?

Ditto, I had mine pressured tested at Rotary Performance (TX) for a whole day and I still couldn't find the problem. The engine only has 12,000 miles on it and it tested out fine, not a coolant seal, I installed a new AST this morning because the one that came with the car seemed to have the lip worn out. I'm crossing my fingers.

the car needs to be 'burped' of air pockets when you fill it up with coolant. It takes quite a bit of time and paitience to get it completely full. There are many different ways to go about it, i find that filling it up, disconntecting the throttle body coolant hose, then filling it up more helps. I then reconnect the hose, start the car and let it run for a while, shut it down, and start the process again.

Do a search on 'burping' and you'll find lots of info.

personally the way i like to do it is take off both the ast cap and the radiator fill cap after the car is warmed up and squeeze the upper radiator hose. NOTE: on some cars, this requires removal of the i/c. at any rate, just search and there will be plenty of information.

Try replacing your coolant caps (if you haven't yet).

If the seals on the caps are failing, they won't hold pressure. This can cause the situation you are seeing *if* they are old, worn and failing.

I did that on mine a couple of times. On mine it ended up being the lip on the AST that was slightly bent/wornout. After replacing the AST it solved the problem. I'm a happy man.

Air Seperation Tank. The original is mounted to the IC and is plastic. Should be rplaced with an aluminum one.
I had similar symptoms with my Fd twice and both times it was the coolant line just in front of the UIM on the top of the engine. It's under the pipe that runs from the Y pipe to the IC.

I'm fairly certain you have a small leak or it's escaping from the caps. I'd look for small drips of coolant under the car. My leak was this hose.
