Coolant leak while driving ONLY...

Hi guys,

This is another one of those cooling threads. I did my share of searching, but I didn't find any threads that had to do with what I'm experiencing.

This is my problem: While the car stands still, (cold or hot), everything is fine. The idle is smooth, starts up no problem, no white smoke or smell out of the exhaust. However, the moment I put it into gear and start moving, I notice that there is a streak of coolant behind me. Now here is the weird thing: This doesn't happen constantly. I pulled away from my garage and saw a streak behind me, but while driving to work and pulling into my parking spot, I noticed no drops even. So it seems like it leaks for some time, then stops. I drove back from work (3 miles) and no leaks either. However, after starting it up again later, I noticed the coolant streak coming out while I was driving.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

I have a similar problem in that it's leaking but not when sitting idle or parked. I haven't looked for a trail left behind, I'll do that next.

Today I looked all over for the leak that I can smell, and got the warning yesterday that coolant was low. I found a small amount collecting on some sort of bar at the bottom of the engine bay, but couldn't see any evidence at all on the AST, hoses, or radiator.

It seems like I'm going to have to either raise it up on a rack or take to a shop to locate the leak.

I too welcome any suggestions.

pressure test your coolant system.

this is a bit hard to diagnose from just that. if you are not getting ANY white smoke ,

I'd start by checking every hose on the car including the one that goes to the TB make sure they are all good and secure.

visual inspections aren't effective. pressure reveals leaks.

When it leaks do you top it off after?
Your overflow could just be too full and the expansion of the liquid is causing it to flow over.

Pressure test is the best way to go. If it doesnt do the trick, try having the car idle while pressure testing it.

I've had many cars that does this, and result was bad waterpump ONLY underload while car is running.

Pressure test WILL reveal the leakage. I guaranteed that.
