Coolant Flush, colors
OK, I decided to flush the coolant prior to installing a new radiator. A fellow FDer told me to switch to the orange Prestone, since it is for multi-metal engines. He recommended using the 2-part Prestone heavy flush, with the 2 powders.
I did so. I also learned you can't refill an FD coolant system worth dick with it on ramps. It would only take 1/2 gallon. Level it takes 1.5 gallons.
I emptied using both the radiator drain and the engine drain block plugs.
I am running distilled water for the 3-4th time through after using the Prestone Cleaner Neutralizer.
The water color from the radiator is fairly clear, with a slight green tint.
The water from the engine block is a heavier orange color. Is this the best I can get? I was hoping it would get nearly as clean as the radiator water.
The last few times I have only lightly ran the engine, for like 2-4 minutes, or until it reaches the top of the 2 white hashes on the bottom of the gage.
When I was running the 30, and then 10 minutes for the cleanser and neutralizer the temp was getting up to standard operating temp, at about 9:00 on the gage.
Am I doing anything wrong?
The last 2 times I drained the block, I did not see the same lightening in color I saw in the radiator water.
In paranoia, I smelled the water, I don't smell oil. I drained the oil, didn't see water...
