compression numbers

i just got a compression test done on a 94 rx7 i'm about to purchase this weekend. i believe the numbers they quoted me were around 7.8-7.9. they said that brand new motors have numbers around 8, so the motor is in very good condition. what exactly do the numbers mean?

You'll get 6 numbers. Each one represents the compression on each of the three faces of both rotors. The numbers you have are in kg/cm2 (7.8-7.9 kg/cm2 = 111-112 psi). An explanation of the compression vs engine health can be found here:
