The information is well documented in almost all the literature I have regarding the FD. Including Yamaguchi's book.

An auto has 3.9 rear end, and manual has 4.1 ratio. An automatic by design makes its peak power earlier in the band, so in efforts to push the peak power a bit further up in the band to utilize the rotary's unique revving characteristics, a 3.9 gear was used for the autos. I don't think you make more power with a different gear, it just makes the timing of the peak power earlier or later in the band.
Ring and Pinion doesn't alter engine born HP. It simply spreads it or compresses, if you will, through a given power band in conjunction with transmission and ring & pinion gearing.

If a car is making 200rwhp at 6500rpm, that's all you get regardless of tranny/R&P gears. But usually, you'll have better acceleration with lower R&P gears than with higher R&P gears because you're utilizing the Engines 200rwhp quicker .
(guicker revs=quicker HP=quicker car).

Damn.So us auto fd owners are losing 60 horses to the driveline. That sucks.Thats almost a 24% percent drivetrain loss.Compared to the manuals 14% drivetrain loss.I can see why most fd owners swap to a 5 speed.

Mmm...I don't have either of those. Also, those aren't links I expected that 'well-documented' extended into the realm of the internet.

Sorry. These old dinosaurs have to be bought and read, .....not googled. Yamaguchi's book is regarded by most 3rd Generation owners as the FD Bible.

The 1993 RX-7 Dealer brochure/booklet was given to prospected FD buyers after test driving the vehicle. Lots of great information in it, all authorized by Mazda Corp. Marketing and Sales Department.

Both books are sometimes offered on eBay.
