I am having a problem with my clutch. The symptoms seem to be irregular. The first thing I noticed was noise (something rubbing and scraping) in the bell housing area of the tranny. while my foot was on the clutch pedal at a stop (either in neutral or in 1st gear). Then I had problems getting it in 1st at a stop (I probably put it in 1st at the stop, then to neutral and then when I tried putting it in 1st gear again). And only once, I went to start the car with it in 1st gear and my foot in on the clutch, and it jumped as if I never had the clutch in.

Do these symptoms sound like the clutch slave, or some hydraulic problem? I have always driven a manual transmission, but never have had any symptoms to cause me to replace the clutch. My 1993 has 137K miles on it, and the clutch and throw out bearing were replace with the reman engine at 106K miles. The only other problem I have had was the line from the master to the slave leaked from the fitting, and my clutch pedal went to the floor... but that was at around 90K miles, and it was promptly replaced.

I would appreciate it, if anyone has had a clutch slave go bad, if you could describe some of the symptoms of its failure.

If the slave cylinder goes bad ( I would think it to be raer since its only a boot, cylinder, and a piston. ) You wouldnt be able to get the clutch to pull away from the flywheel. In other words the pedal wouldnt work.

You can remove the starter and then remove the slave cylinder and inspect it yourself.
Its two 14 mm nuts holding the starter on. And one ground 12v cable bolted on.
And then three 12mm bolts holding the slave cylinder on.
You will have to remove the trannsmission scatter shield aswell .
Really only about a 30 min job.

I ended up rebuilding the master and clutch slave cylinder in the hopes of avoiding replacing the clutch fork, but the enevitable happened

Thankfully I know a mechanic that installed a new clutch fork for $300 CAD total

i was gettin ready to mention the fork. sounds like it might be slightly cracked. jack the car up and open the bottom access plate. you should be able to see if it's cracked or not. if so, it's not that bad to fix, just a pain in the butt

 

Sounds very similar to what happened to me a few days ago: the clutch fork broke.
