clutch problems

ok recently after driving for a while on the highway, it would become hard to downshift, the car would grind more or less, so if i pumped the clutch a bit i would get a good pedal and the car would be fine, sometimes if the car sat for a bit there wouldnt be a hard clutch pedal feel and i would have to pump it, i tried to bleed it and it seemed to work for a day or two.
then today in rush hour traffic in boston my pedal went to the floor with no pressure feel at all, if i pushed it in it stayed on the floor, but not stuck, just to the floor becasue it had no pressure to push back up, i looked all over and coulcnt find a damn thing wrong, so i got it to a shop up in boston and suspect its the slave. any ideas??

Sorry, I've not yet experianced a slave failure. But thank you very much for saying what fixed the problem for future references.
