Clutch hydraulics

Say I put something besides DOT 3 in my clutch fluid place. Does it hurt it? I didnt fill it it up i just topped it off to the line. So does anyone know if I just screwed up my hydraulics?

Read the notes on the container, should say what it is compatable with.

DOT number has nothing to do with CHEMICAL TYPE compatablity, but with boiling points(dry and wet).

If you're working on a 3rd gen which uses a common reservoir for the clutch and brakes, your bigger concern would be the fluid’s compatibility with the braking system. With that said, as long as the fluid you used is labeled as being compatible with other brake fluids as already stated by cewrx7r1, you should be fine.

However, regardless of the vehicle type and model, if you added a synthetic type of fluid on top of normal petroleum based fluid, or anything besides clean compatible brake fluid, you’ll need to quickly get the system completely flushed, not just bled. On the 3rd gen or others with common reservoir arrangements that means both the brakes and clutch systems.
